Location: Nain, Hopedale, Natuashish, Sheshatshiu The Child and Youth Services Branch of the Department of Social Supports and Well-Being (SSWB) has immediate vacancies for Social Worker II positions, of various durations and in various locations. Along with providing a rewarding work experience, we offer opportunities for career growth, competitive pay, benefits and housing allowances, a signing bonus between $30,000 – $50,000 in return for a two-year return-in-service agreement, an Enhanced Labrador Benefits Package which includes up to $12,000 in housing allowances/advantages (unless housing is provided by the Dept), $3000 - $5000 travel bonus depending on location & other relocation allowances for those who qualify.

The Child and Youth Services Branch of SSWB provides a range of interventions, services, and supports to vulnerable children and youth and their families through the Protective Intervention, In Care, Adoptions, Youth Services and Youth Corrections programs.

Duties

Working in an Indigenous community with a diverse cultural background, the Social Worker II provides professional social work services to clients of the Department of Social Supports and Well-Being (SSWB). In this position, you will work collaboratively with the Indigenous representatives/prevention teams/family services teams when planning with/for clients. As part of our team, you will have the opportunity to make a contribution,



gain valuable experience in a range of program areas and perform the following duties:

- Conducting risk and safety assessments
- Developing intervention plans
- Providing counselling and case management for children, youth, and families of a variety of backgrounds
- Completing documentation in accordance with professional standards of practice, and policies and procedures of the department
- Addressing family dynamics and complex psychosocial factors
- Conducting home or agency visits and supporting community-based services
- Screening, identifying and prioritizing referrals for service
- Preparing reports, completing legal documents, and providing testimony in court as required

Screening Criteria

You are a seasoned social worker, a social work student, or an anticipated social work graduate. You are a professional with knowledge and experience in social work practice relating to well-being of children, youth and families with an awareness of diverse cultural circumstances. You are organized with exceptional case management, risk management and decision-making skills. You are an effective communicator with a commitment to service delivery excellence and relationship building . You are self-aware , recognizing the need for self-care when managing high stress situations.

Your education includes completion or near completion of a Bachelor of Social Work.

Applications from internationally educated social workers must clearly demonstrate eligibility to register and practice social work in Newfoundland and Labrador by including a copy of their CASW Assessment of International Credentials.

Information for Applicants Social work practice in the field of child welfare requires an ability to effectively intervene and provide support to children and families, which may be in situations of crisis and emotional distress. Self-awareness and self-care are important skill sets for this position. The Social Worker II adheres to the standards for client services in accordance with the Social Work Code of Ethics, Social Work Standards Practice, provincial and federal legislation and departmental standards.

As a Social Worker II you will work as part of a dynamic team that includes a Clinical Program Supervisor, Social Assistance Workers, Community Service Workers and Administrative Support.
