Duration: 12 Months - With the posibility of extension

Client Location: Kanata, ON (Hybrid 4 days per week in the office / Monday to Thursday)

Engagement Model: Professional Services Engagement – B2B (Incorporated Entities Only)

About the Engagement

Akkodis is seeking the services of an experienced Software Engineer – Android Automotive / Embedded Systems consultant to support the development, integration, testing, and maintenance of complex automotive software systems. The engagement will focus on Android Automotive, infotainment, digital cockpit, embedded platform services, and vehicle-facing applications, with responsibility across the full software development lifecycle.

Services to be Provided

- Design, develop, test, integrate, deploy, and maintain software applications, embedded components, and platform services.
- Develop and integrate software for Android Automotive, infotainment, and digital cockpit systems, including GUIs, middleware, platform services, and vehicle-facing applications.
- Develop and maintain Android platform services and applications using C, Java, and Kotlin, including customized Android services, Binder-based communication, AIDL interfaces, and system-level components.
- Work within the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) to customize, integrate, debug, and maintain Android platform functionality.
- Design, develop, integrate, and troubleshoot automotive Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) components and Stable AIDL interfaces.
- Create high-level software architecture designs covering system components, interfaces, inter-process communication, data flows, and integration points.
- Own software features and components throughout the complete development lifecycle, including requirements, architecture,



implementation, testing, release, troubleshooting, and post-release support.
- Diagnose and resolve complex software issues involving crashes, memory corruption, race conditions, deadlocks, threading, concurrency, and system stability.
- Develop and implement software testing strategies including unit, integration, mock-based, static, dynamic, and performance testing.
- Apply software engineering practices including code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD, test-driven development, and Agile methodologies.
- Collaborate with technology, product, hardware, design, and test engineering teams to deliver software across multiple release cycles.
- Support software security practices including encryption, access controls, and protection of customer and vehicle data.
- Evaluate and incorporate emerging technologies to improve software functionality, reliability, development efficiency, and overall vehicle user experience.

Expertise Required

- Practitioner-level experience with at least one programming language or framework.
- Minimum 4 years of IT experience and 3 years of software development experience.
- Progressive experience in software design, development, testing, integration, troubleshooting, and delivery.
- Strong experience with C development, including modern C programming concepts, memory management, multithreading, concurrency, and software architecture.




- Strong understanding of software development lifecycle and embedded software engineering practices.
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to understand technical requirements and deliver reliable software solutions.

Nice to Have

- Experience owning software features or components through multiple release lifecycles, from inception and architecture through delivery and post-release support.
- Experience working within complex software ecosystems involving applications, services, displays, databases, networking, IPC, and thread synchronization.
- Experience with Android Automotive, infotainment, digital cockpit, or automotive embedded platforms.
- Experience developing or integrating AOSP platform components.
- Experience with automotive HAL and Reliable AIDL implementations.
- Experience performing crash analysis, stability profiling, memory analysis, and performance optimization on production software.
- Experience with Java and Kotlin development.
- Familiarity with CI/CD, automated testing, Agile development, and modern software engineering practices.
