Provides guidance and mentorship to the Payroll Coordinator, reviews payroll outputs for accuracy, and supports resolution of complex payroll issues.
Supports payroll execution across multiple pay cycles, ensuring accuracy and timeliness. Coordinates with Dayforce Managed Services to resolve issues and validate outputs.
Ensures compliance with payroll-related legislation and regulations; produces payroll remittances and annual tax documents; oversees compliance with statutory reporting and filing requirements; and develops policies and procedures for the payroll function. Assists the Manager, Payroll in maintaining compliance with federal and provincial legislation, including CRA requirements and OSFI readiness.
Develops processes for reviews and audits of each pay cycle. Supports audit preparation and documentation and ensures payroll records are maintained accurately.
Collaborates with Dayforce Managed Services to ensure system functionality aligns with legislative and organizational requirements.
Reviews and recommends updates to payroll system configuration and recommends and implements changes leading best-practice operations.
Supports the Manager, Payroll in CRA-related matters and acts as a secondary contact for escalated payroll inquiries.
Ensures payroll processing reflects accurate benefit deductions, leave adjustments, and return-to-work arrangements. Advises on payroll implications of benefit changes.
Requirements Diploma in business administration, accounting or in a related field required or an equivalent combination of experience and education; Bachelor’s degree is an asset
Payroll Compliance Skilled (PCP) designation required; Payroll Leadership Professional (PLP) designation an asset
4+ years of payroll experience and advanced knowledge of payroll legislation required
Preferred:
Working knowledge of the Employment Standards Act and Canada Labour Code
Dayforce experience or similar outsourced payroll platforms
Ability to perform complex tasks with little or no supervision; comfortable working in a fast-paced setting where meeting time-sensitive deadlines is required
Strong interpersonal skills and communication skills, with the ability to work well in a team environment
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to interpret legislation and resolve payroll discrepancies
