Traverse Independence was founded in 1975 as an agency dedicated to developing housing with support services for people with physical disabilities. Since then, our organization has evolved with a new name, as well as from offering services for adults with physical disabilities to serving those with brain injury through eight sites and programs in the Region of Waterloo and County of Wellington. We are dedicated to the mission of maximizing our client's ability to live independently by providing support services for adults with physical disabilities or brain injuries. A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN ATTENDANT CARE WORKER
As a member of Traverse Independence, you will work within an attendant care team in your location. You will be responsible for assisting adults with an acquired brain injury (ABI) and/or physical disability with activities of daily living, through booked visits or non-scheduled services. Most clients we serve have a brain injury and with that can come some behavioural challenges, however working alongside those challenges can also bring you a strong sense of
loyalty and accomplishment
as you support them in their quest to be independent.
Basic responsibilities include but are not limited to medication assistance, lifts and transfers, repositioning, bowel and bladder routines, prescribed therapies such as speech, physiotherapy, bathing and grooming, meal planning and food preparation, feeding, laundry, light housekeeping. On occasion carefully monitored pet care is required. You will
communicate
effectively with our clients and their families to ensure that they have the best quality of support. You will use your computer skills to keep up with charting and updating all records. This job requires you to have a
flexible schedule
and reliable transportation. QUALIFICATIONS
Experience providing personal care to clients with disabilities Personal Support Worker
certificate is required or equivalent experience Computer skills (charting in database) Flexible schedule and reliable transportation Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to pass a background check Valid Level C CPR/Standard First Aid Certification Experience working with complex clientele READY TO JOIN OUR TEAM?
