Position Summary:
The Speech Language Pathologist works as a member of the acute care interdisciplinary team on the development of a comprehensive Speech, Swallowing and Communication program at Guelph General Hospital.
The primary role of the Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) provides high quality, safe, effective and evidence-based care in partnership with patients and families, in accordance with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario standards and GGH’s mission, vision, values and policies. The SLP expertise includes prevention, identification, evaluation, and treatment of congenital and acquired communication and swallowing disorders. The SLP
- Provides patient and family centered care to patients with communication and swallowing disorders within an interdisciplinary setting
- Acts as a clinical resource and provides education to the interdisciplinary team and conducts educational sessions as part of the Waterloo Wellington Aphasia Program and Stroke initiative
- Provides education to and supervision of students
- Demonstrates interdisciplinary collaboration, communication and co-operation internally and externally to the Hospital, with respect to SLP issues
- Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members and community services to ensure a secure and timely discharge into appropriate settings

Qualifications, Experience, Skills and Abilities:
- Masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology
- Member in good standing with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO)
- Member of Ontario Association of Speech Language Pathologists and Audiologists (OSLA) preferred
- Previous inpatient/rehab experience preferred
- Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team
- Dedicated to public education and advocacy
- Dedicated to patient and family centred care and patient safety
- Demonstrated ability to conduct video fluoroscopic study procedures
- Ability to provide counselling to patients, families and other health care professionals
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both oral and written
- Excellent problem solving skills
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a self-directed manner as well as collaboratively within a team in a fast-paced and ever-changing setting
- Demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service when interacting with patients, families, colleagues and physicians
