About APMC The Alberta Petroleum Marketing Commission (APMC) is the commercial arm of the Government of Alberta, operating as an agent of the Crown under the Petroleum Marketing Act. Since 1974, APMC has played a critical role in maximizing the value of Alberta’s energy resources on behalf of Albertans.

APMC manages key commercial and strategic initiatives, including the marketing of Alberta’s royalty share of conventional crude oil, oversight of royalty reference pricing, participation in major energy infrastructure investments, and the pursuit of new business opportunities that support industry growth and market development.

Working at the intersection of government, industry, and global energy markets, APMC collaborates with stakeholders across the upstream, midstream, and downstream sectors to identify opportunities that enhance Alberta’s competitiveness and long-term resource value. About the Role

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Business Development, the Strategic Analyst, Natural Gas Markets & Transmission will support APMC’s efforts to enhance Alberta’s position in natural gas, NGL, and power markets through advanced market analysis, forecasting, and business development initiatives.

This position offers a unique opportunity to influence strategic decision-making by providing actionable insights on market dynamics, infrastructure developments, regulatory trends, pricing, and emerging opportunities across North American and global energy markets.

The successful candidate will partner closely with senior leadership to assess market conditions, identify growth opportunities, develop economic models, and support initiatives that contribute to Alberta’s long-term energy competitiveness and market expansion.

Key Responsibilities

Market Analysis & Strategic Insights

- Develop and maintain analytical models focused on natural gas, NGL, and power market supply and demand fundamentals.




- Monitor and evaluate key market drivers, including production trends, storage levels, LNG activity, pipeline utilization, power generation dynamics, emissions policies, and regulatory developments.
- Analyze complex market data and translate findings into clear business insights related to pricing, basis differentials, infrastructure constraints, and commercial opportunities.
- Support forecasting, scenario analysis, and long-term market outlook development to inform strategic planning and risk management decisions.

Business Development & Opportunity Assessment

- Identify, assess, and evaluate new commercial opportunities, partnerships, and strategic initiatives within the energy sector.
- Contribute to the development of business cases, proposals, presentations, and stakeholder materials that support new ventures and market expansion opportunities.
- Collaborate with leadership on projects designed to enhance the value of Alberta’s natural gas resources and strengthen access to existing and emerging markets.

Reporting & Stakeholder Engagement

- Prepare reports, presentations, dashboards, and briefing materials for internal leadership and external stakeholders.
- Gather and interpret data from government, industry, and commercial sources to support evidence-based decision-making.
- Communicate technical and market information effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Strategic Collaboration

- Work closely with management and cross-functional stakeholders on strategic growth initiatives and market development opportunities.
- Support projects that connect natural gas and power market trends with broader energy system and infrastructure developments.
- Contribute to process improvements and analytical capabilities that enhance organizational effectiveness and decision-making.

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business, Finance,



Economics, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in energy market analysis, ideally focused on North American natural gas and/or power markets.
- Strong understanding of Alberta’s natural gas and power infrastructure, including transmission systems, market connectivity, capacity constraints, and expansion projects.
- Experience with NGTL, AESO, Mainline, Alliance, or related energy systems is considered an asset.
- Experience in LNG market analysis and/or crude oil market analysis is advantageous.
- Demonstrated expertise in economic analysis, financial modelling, forecasting, and data analytics.
- Strong knowledge of energy market fundamentals, pricing mechanisms, transportation systems, supply chains, and regulatory frameworks.
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking abilities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to simplify complex concepts.
- Ability to work independently while thriving in a collaborative team setting.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
- High attention to detail combined with the ability to maintain a strategic, big-picture perspective.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook.
