Description The Team:

The Parks and Protected Areas team is passionate about connecting people with some of British Columbia's most spectacular natural places while protecting the ecological and cultural values that make them unique. Working across a diverse network of parks and protected areas, this team partners with park operators, First Nations, communities, and other partners and stakeholders to deliver exceptional visitor experiences, maintain critical infrastructure, and support responsible recreation. As part of this collaborative and purpose-driven team, you'll contribute to meaningful work that helps millions of visitors enjoy BC's parks safely and sustainably each year.

The Role:

The Recreation Services Officer is responsible for managing a diverse portfolio of Park Operator Agreements that help bring BC Parks to life for millions of visitors. Through strategic contract oversight and relationship management, you will ensure the delivery of high-quality services, including facility operations, public safety, maintenance, revenue collection, and enhanced recreational programming. Working across front country, marine, and backcountry parks, you will play a critical role in upholding BC Parks' brand, service standards, and commitment to exceptional visitor experiences.

Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:

- Degree in Resource Management or Natural Resource Management or related degree (e.g., geography, environmental studies) and three (3) years of directly related experience, of which a minimum is two (2) years’ park/recreation management experience and one (1) year of natural resource management; or,
- Degree in Business with focus on project and/or contract management in the Natural Resource Sector (e.g. business administration, public administration) with related experience in project and/or contract management including negotiating terms and conditions; or,
- Two (2) year Technical Diploma in Natural Resource Management or Parks Management, or related diploma and five (5) years of directly related experience, of which a minimum is two (2) years’ park/recreation management and one (1) year of natural resource management.
- Experience and/or training in contract management, including negotiating terms and conditions.
- Must possess and maintain a Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence.




- Must be able to travel, sometimes extensively both within and outside the region and in remote areas for multiple days, by vehicle, boat, air, or foot, in camp conditions and in all weather.

Related experience:

- Contract management experience includes procurement for services or assets, contract inspection and monitoring, direct financial negotiations, contract agreement writing, dispute resolution.
- Park management experience includes development and maintenance of recreation facilities, operation of facilities, management of public and private sector recreation services, and employee and public safety and security).
- Natural Resource management experience includes wildlife or vegetation management programs, resource inventory and research, environmental impact assessment, resource use regulations, resource protection, non-conforming use management, First Nations agreements.

About this Position:

There is currently one (1) temporary opportunity available for approximately seven (7) months.

This temporary appointment may be extended or become a permanent position.

This position can be located in Dawson Creek or Fort St John.

Versatile work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week subject to an approved Telework Agreement.

Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.

An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies in the above locations.
