We are currently seeking a Survey Crew Chief (Intermediate/Senior) to join our Edmonton team. This role is ideal for an experienced field survey professional with strong technical judgment, leadership ability, and a practical understanding of municipal infrastructure and land development projects. The successful candidate will support accurate data collection, construction layout, field coordination, and the supervision of survey assistants.
What You’ll Do
As a Survey Crew Chief, you will support the delivery of accurate survey information and construction layout services for municipal engineering and land development projects. Key responsibilities include:
- Perform topographical surveys, subdivision construction layout, and other geomatics work using traditional survey equipment, total stations, GPS systems, and data collectors.
- Interpret construction drawings, specifications, and design information to support accurate field layout. Complete and support subdivision survey and construction layout calculations, including volume calculations where required.
- Supervise, train, and mentor survey assistants by providing clear field direction, technical guidance, and practical support to help ensure accurate, efficient, and safe survey operations.
- Promote safe field practices, including hazard awareness, proper use of equipment, and compliance with company and project-specific safety requirements.
- Coordinate and communicate effectively with internal project teams, contractors,
and municipal representatives while working in the field.
What You Bring
- 5 to 10 years of field survey experience on municipal engineering and land development projects.
- Diploma or certificate in Geomatics, Surveying, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field is considered an asset.
- Familiarity with sewer, water main, road construction, and subdivision construction materials, methods, and processes.
- Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Experience in the field using levels, chains, total stations, GPS systems, and data collectors.
- Computer skills including Word, Excel, Windows, MicroSurvey, and CADD applications.
- A self-motivated approach, robust attention to detail, and an interest in developing technical, leadership, and crew coordination skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- A vehicle and valid driver’s licence are required for this position.
