Are you a Systems Engineer who enjoys solving technical problems, working with multidisciplinary teams, and helping turn complex requirements into reliable ocean technology and defence-related systems? This role offers the prospect to grow your systems engineering experience while contributing to meaningful work across requirements, architecture, integration, testing, documentation, deployment, and sustainment.
About JASCO For more than 40 years, JASCO Applied Sciences has supported clients across energy, renewables, marine construction, defence, environmental assessment, and related sectors with sound science, technical excellence, and practical solutions. Our teams design, build, and support specialized systems that help clients understand and protect marine environments around the world. You will work alongside engineers, scientists, technologists, and project professionals who value collaboration, curiosity, practical problem-solving, and high-quality technical work.
Why You’ll Love Working Here
- Meaningful work: Contribute to technology and projects that support ocean science, environmental monitoring, and real-world decision-making.
- Collaborative teams: Work with engineers, scientists, technologists, project leaders, and operations teams who value practical problem-solving and technical quality.
- Growth and learning: Take on diverse technical challenges and help improve how engineering projects are planned, coordinated, documented, and delivered.
- Flexibility and balance: Join a workplace that values professionalism, accountability, and work-life balance.
About the Role In this role, you will support the development of advanced ocean technology and defence-related systems from concept through deployment and sustainment. You will help define requirements, support system architecture and interfaces, contribute to integration and testing, maintain technical documentation, and support configuration management and lifecycle activities. You will work closely with software, electrical, mechanical, firmware, production, quality, and project engineering teams to help ensure technical solutions are clear, traceable, testable, maintainable, and aligned with stakeholder, customer, project, quality, reliability, and performance expectations. This opportunity is well suited to someone who is curious, detail-oriented, collaborative, and interested in building practical systems engineering skills.
What You’ll Do
- Support the capture, analysis, documentation, review, allocation, and traceability of stakeholder, customer, system, subsystem, and interface requirements.
- Assist with operational concepts, use cases, scenarios, system behaviour descriptions, trade studies, and technical discussions that support solution definition.
- Contribute to system architecture, subsystem relationships, functional allocations, interface definitions, integration approaches, and related technical documentation.
- Participate in requirements, architecture, design, interface, test readiness, and technical planning reviews with multidisciplinary teams.
- Support verification and validation planning, procedures,
acceptance criteria, test execution, evidence collection, test reports, and follow-up actions.
- Assist with laboratory, environmental, production, field, and operational testing, including preparation, data collection, analysis, results documentation, and troubleshooting.
- Prepare and maintain clear technical documentation, including specifications, interface documentation, engineering reports, user documentation, verification evidence, and engineering records.
- Support configuration management, including change control, document versioning, configuration identification, issue tracking, and release processes.
- Coordinate with engineering, production, quality, and project contributors to clarify expectations, resolve system-level issues, and improve documentation, testing, integration, traceability, and knowledge-sharing practices.
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in systems engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, software engineering, computer science, applied science, or a related technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Typically 2–5 years of engineering experience; recent graduates with relevant project, capstone, internship, or co-op experience may also be considered.
- Working knowledge of systems engineering lifecycle processes, including requirements, design, integration, verification, validation, testing, and sustainment.
- Ability to support requirements documentation, interface definition, verification evidence, technical decisions, and test-result documentation.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills, with careful attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams and manage multiple technical tasks concurrently in a deadline-driven engineering environment.
- Commitment to continuous learning, practical engineering delivery, and explicit technical documentation.
- Ability to successfully complete Reliability Status security screening, including applicable criminal record and background checks and any related residency requirements.
Assets
- Experience with requirements management tools, traceability practices, structured requirements documentation, configuration management, change control, issue tracking, or technical decision records.
- Experience supporting verification and validation planning, test procedure development, acceptance testing, test reporting, field trials, deployments, or operational testing.
- Familiarity with electronics, embedded systems, software development, mechanical systems, test equipment, sensors, communications, or production transition activities.
- Experience supporting marine technology, underwater acoustics, autonomous systems, defence systems, environmental monitoring, instrumentation, or related technical environments.
- Experience preparing technical reports, risk assessments, design review materials, customer-facing technical documentation, or operational support materials.
Security Screening Requirement Because of the nature of the work, this position requires, at minimum, the ability to successfully complete reliability status security screening. This includes a 5-year criminal record check and a 5-year background check. To obtain this status in a timely manner, candidates must have resided continuously in Canada for the past 5 years. Please indicate in your resume or cover letter whether you meet the 5-year residence requirement.
