Position Overview
Goode Learning is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Secondary Teacher-Tutor to provide in-person, one-to-one tutoring in students' homes in Mississauga.
The successful candidate will initially support two Grade 11 students, with a focus on secondary science and executive functioning skills. There is potential to take on additional Goode Learning clients based on the teacher-tutor's availability, qualifications, and areas of expertise.
This position is ideal for an educator who enjoys individualized instruction, building meaningful relationships with students, and helping secondary students develop both their academic skills and the strategies they need to become more confident, independent learners.
The successful candidate should be comfortable supporting students in areas such as:
- Grade 11 Science
- Biology, Chemistry and/or Physics
- Executive functioning
- Organization and planning
- Time management and prioritization
- Study skills and test preparation
- Assignment and project management
- Independent application of academic concepts
- Confidence building and learning strategies
Key Responsibilities As a Teacher-Tutor at Goode Learning, you will:
- Deliver individualized, one-to-one instruction in students' homes in Mississauga
- Provide curriculum-based support aligned with the Ontario secondary curriculum
- Support Grade 11 science coursework based on the student's individual courses and needs
- Help students develop executive functioning skills, including organization, planning, prioritization, task initiation, time management, and study strategies
- Help students break larger assignments, projects, and assessments into manageable steps
- Develop engaging sessions based on student needs, current coursework, and learning goals
- Differentiate instruction to support diverse learning profiles
- Monitor student progress and communicate relevant updates with the Goode Learning team
- Build positive and professional relationships with students and families
- Foster confidence, independence, self-advocacy, and effective learning habits
Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess:
- Membership in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT)
- Qualifications and/or experience teaching at the Intermediate/Senior level
- Strong knowledge of the Ontario secondary curriculum
- Experience teaching or tutoring secondary science
- Knowledge of executive functioning and effective learning strategies
- Experience supporting students with diverse learning needs
- Strong understanding of differentiated instruction
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to build positive relationships with adolescents
- Flexibility, professionalism, and a collaborative mindset
- Reliable transportation and the ability to travel to students' homes within Mississauga
Preferred Qualifications
- Intermediate/Senior Science qualifications
- Biology, Chemistry and/or Physics teachable
- Special Education Part 1 or Specialist
- Experience supporting students with ADHD, learning disabilities, or executive functioning challenges
- Previous secondary classroom or one-to-one tutoring experience
