As a Technician – Building Automation Systems within our Facilities Department, you will be responsible for maintaining, installing, and managing automated building control systems to optimize building performance, energy efficiency, and occupant comfort.

What will your typical day look like?

- Oversees the day-to-day operations and the maintenance of BAS of a variety of buildings and facilities operated by the PRP; utilizes CMMS and works closely with Building Operators and Mechanics to complete work orders.
- Ensures continuous, optimized and energy-efficient operation of building automation systems (BAS) of a variety of systems, and optimal occupant comfort at all buildings and facilities operated by the Peel Regional Police (PRP) in accordance with legislative requirements.
- Uses building automation systems and equipment at sites, proactively monitors office temperatures, boilers, furnaces, humidifiers, compressors, chillers, air conditioners, domestic hot and cold-water supply, sanitary equipment and sewers, storm sewers and drainage, elevators, UPS, diesel and natural gas generators, electrical supply and distribution, lighting, emergency lighting to ensure all are operating effectively.
- Diagnoses software and hardware issues and perform point-to-point verification to ensure every sensor and actuator is wired correctly and communicating with a central controller, and in turn, engine. Performs preventative and reactive maintenance in the form of scheduled inspections, settings adjustments, and software upgrades to prevent system failures.
- Validates the work of external vendors and ensures they comply with preventative maintenance guidelines as per industry standards, manufacturer recommendations, and contract scope. Confirms BAS software connection with third-party systems using industry standard protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks, etc.
- Manages access to BAS and coordinates with IT Services on BAS network architecture, segmentation, patching, and adherence to Peel Regional Polic cybersecurity standards to mitigate operational technology risks.
- Supports integration of BAS with security, life safety, and access control systems, including environmental controls for CCTV head-end rooms, holding cells, and other mission-critical spaces.
- Verifies the reliability of equipment, analyzes equipment performance, generates trending and recommendation reports to meet climate change and other operational goals. Programs, tests, and commissions BAS controllers and software. Provides support with system upgrades and integration as well as new installations by liaising with internal stakeholders and contractors.
- Supports the asset management team by developing standard operating procedures in the form of written documentation or other media as needed for CMMS integration. Provides training workshops as directed.
- Participates in the creation of contract documents by making recommendations on scope of work for various maintenance service agreements.




- Identifies opportunities for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption in support of the Region’s Climate Change Mitigation Strategy.
- Develops and maintains positive working relationships with members, clients, external vendors, and peers.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Manager – Operations.

Enough about us, lets talk about you

You are someone with:

- A Building Systems Engineering Technician diploma is required, or an equivalent combination of education and job knowledge.
- Niagara 4 Technical Certification and networking related certification such as a Cisco Certified Support Technician is required.
- An Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT)) certification as a Certified Technician or Technologist is preferred.
- Manufacturer specific training from Johnson Controls, Siemens, Honeywell, or other non-proprietary direct digital control platforms is an asset.
- Building Environmental Systems Class 1 and 2 an asset.
- Facility Management (e.g. FMA, FMP), Maintenance Management or Building Environmental Systems (BES) Class 1 or 2 designations are an asset.
- Working knowledge in maintaining mechanical, plumbing, electrical, controls and gas sensor systems.
- A minimum of five (5) years of hands-on experience in building automation systems and direct digital controls with practical knowledge of building automation systems such as Johnson Controls, Trane Tracer Summit, Automated Logic, Niagara Tridium JACE 4.0, Delta, Honeywell, etc. that utilize communication protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, TCP/IP, plus three (3) years or more hands-on experience in designing or servicing HVAC systems.
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite.
- Networking experience preferred and plumbing experience an asset.
- Ability to interpret mechanical and electrical blueprints, shop drawings and schematics.
- Demonstrated ability to manage small projects from implementation to closeout.
- Strong organization and time management skills with an ability to multitask and adjust to changing priorities.
- Superior analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Programming and diagnostic skills and demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills with a solid customer centric focus demonstrating tact and diplomacy dealing with persons at all levels.
- Proven ability to build positive working relationships with contractors and vendors with an ability to read and interpret contract scope of work.
- Working knowledge of ASHRAE Standards, TSSA Regulations, Federal and Provincial legislation including Occupational Health & Safety Act, WHMIS, Building and Fire Codes.
- Awareness of operational technology cybersecurity principles as applied to building automation networks.
- Ability to perform physical work including climbing ladders, working at heights, accessing mechanical and electrical rooms.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.




- Willingness to travel between PRP facilities and respond to after-hours emergencies as required.
- A valid Ontario Driver’s Licence (Class G) with full driving privileges.

What we offer The salary range for this permanent, full-time position is $74,183.00 to $124,990.00 per annum. Please note that this vacancy is a newly budgeted position. Peel Regional Police offers a highly competitive compensation package; applicants will be considered for the top end of the range ($88,093.00 - $124,990.00) based on experience. The salary is complemented with a comprehensive benefit program, including employer-paid Health/Dental and Life Insurance; and the OMERS Pension Plan effective upon hire.

This position DOES NOT allow for remote working arrangements.
