About the Role: TheElectricianworks on all aspects of the University’selectricalsystems, including scheduled maintenance, new construction, and emergency response.
Perform routine, scheduledelectricalmaintenance work,ranging from 24 volts to 13,800 volts,on various related systemssuchpower distribution systems,fire alarm systems, lighting systems and building automation control systems;
Perform troubleshooting and repair of electrical equipment, such as medium voltage relay protection systems and associated 125VDC control, normal and emergency power systems, interior/exterior lighting and associated control systems, automated clocks,mechanical system components such as variable frequency drives, and analog/digital BAS control devices;
Act as on-callElectrician(and/or on-callFireTechnician) by responding to priority calls requiring immediate attention, such asfire alarm systemde‑activationand re‑activation, power outagesupportandissues withelectrical equipment;
Work various shifts such as 7:30 am–4:00 pm or (afternoon shift), including opportunities for overtime;
Performelectricalinstallation of new equipment, including installing newoutlets, new service entrance panels, current light fixturesand lighting control systems,additionalfire detectiondevicesand new BAS control devices;
Work withandassistother Facilities Management staff or contracted trades onelectricalrelated items;
Maintain a clean, safe working area and report any unsafe conditions;
Ability to communicate clear and precisein a respectful manneris an asset.
Please note this is a 40 hour per week position.
Key Skills and Experience: Licensed JourneymanElectrician certification;
2-5 years of relevant work experience;
Current Ontario driver’s licence with an acceptable driver’s abstract;
CurrentWorking at Heightscertification;
CurrentCSA462training(Arc Flash);
Demonstrated ability to perform electrical installations, maintenance work,troubleshootingand repairs;
Knowledge ofElectrical and Firecodes, legislation, regulations, building operation manuals, operating procedures, safety guidelines, policies,and procedures;
Knowledge of specialty tools such aselectrical diagnostic meters, powertoolsand power quality instrumentation;
Ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints, and equipment specifications;
Demonstrated ability to use PC-based software systems such asBAS or computerized energy management system,Lutron Lighting systems, Simplex and Edwards EST# Fire Alarm Systems, and other related software;
Demonstrated knowledge of safetyregulations andprocedures;
Ability to work as a team to brainstorm solutions, as well as independently;
Ability to communicate effectively with staff, faculty, students, and visitors within the physical space beingmaintained;
Ability to estimate equipment andcomponentrequirements for renovations, installations, and repairs;
Ability to review existing installation(s) and evaluate ifadditionalcomponents/fixtures can be added without compromising the safety and operation of the installation;
Ability to prioritize tasks and continually assess risks;
Ability to resolve emergency situations.
Preferred or Asset Skills: Fire Technician certification.
