The Opportunity RVS invites applications for a continuing, full-time (35 hrs/ wk ) Senior Insurance and Enterprise Risk Specialist position startingOctober 5, 2026 at the Education Centre located in Airdrie, Alberta.
Reporting to the Executive Director of Legal Services, the Senior Insurance and Enterprise Risk Specialist provides expert leadership and advice on insurance, risk management, liability, and contractual risk transfer to support and protect Rocky View Schools' students, employees, assets, and operations. The role oversees the Division's insurance program, claims management, fleet safety, rentals and leasing, tax assessments, and contract risk reviews, while serving as the primary liaison with insurers, brokers, legal counsel, and external partners. The position supports the implementation of the Division's Risk Management Framework through risk identification, assessment, mitigation, and reporting activities, ensuring effective management of operational and insurance-related risks across the organization.
The successful candidate must have access to reliable transportation as regular travel around the division is required.
Responsibilities Include Supports implementation of the Division's Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) program through risk identification, risk assessment, trend analysis and reporting
Manages the division's insurance portfolio, including policy renewals, coverage analysis, reporting requirements, claims administration, and policy interpretation
Provides recommendations regarding insurance program coverage, program enhancements, and emerging insurance considerations
Maintains availability to respond to time-sensitive insurance, claims, liability, and risk management matters,
including emergencies and critical incidents.
Liaises with insurers, brokers, adjusters, investigators, legal counsel, and third party administrators regarding insurance matters
Represents Rocky View Schools on USIC (Urban Schools Insurance Consortium) and other insurance-related governance and collaborative forums
Monitors insurance market trends, emerging risks, and industry developments and provides recommendations regarding operational impacts and implementation opportunities
Conducts and coordinates claims-related investigations involving property loss, liability claims, fraud allegations, negligence concerns and significant student or employee incidents
Manages claims reporting, documentation, investigation, monitoring, and resolution processes
Prepares reports to administration on independent investigations, including strategies, recommendations and direction to improve safety and works with divisional staff to implement desired outcomes
Evaluates rental and leasing Agreements from an insurance and risk standpoint for division facilities
Serves as a resource for contractual language, legislation and regulation interpretation
Prepares Service Provider Agreements to ensure RVS policies are met and risk is appropriately distributed
Collaborates with Occupational Health & Safety on claims related investigations, safety trends, contractor risk management, emergency preparedness considerations and areas of shared organizational risk
Maintains current knowledge of insurance products, market trends, regulatory developments, and emerging organizational risks
Assists in the preparation of the department's annual budget
Education/Experience Degree in Business, Commerce, Risk Management, Insurance, or related field
Minimum 7-10 years progressive experience in insurance, claims, risk management or related field
Canadian Risk Management (CRM) designation is strongly preferred
Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation would be considered a significant asset.
Demonstrated experience managing insurance portfolios, claims programs, liability exposure, and contractual risk transfer
Experience working with insurers, brokers, adjusters, investigators, legal counsel and external partners
Experience working in school division or public sector employer is considered an asset
An equivalent combination of Education and experience may be considered
Knowledge and Skills Extensive knowledge of commercial insurance products, including property, liability, cyber, fleet, crime, environmental, and specialty coverages
Strong understanding of insurance policy wording, exclusions, conditions, deductibles, and coverage interpretation
Strong understanding of contractual risk transfer principles, indemnities, certificates of insurance, and liability allocation
Ability to evaluate organizational risk exposure and provide practical insurance and risk mitigation recommendations
Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise skilled discretion regarding sensitive employee, student, legal, financial, and insurance matters
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret claims data, trends, and loss experience.
Demonstrated understanding of enterprise risk management principles
Proven ability to establish collaborative working relationships with diverse internal and external partners
Effective organization, prioritization, and time management skills
Demonstrated ability to apply excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Ability to successfully work in a team environment as well as independently with minimal supervision
Proficiency with workplace technology, data analysis tools, and Microsoft Office Applications
