The Opportunity
RVS invites applications from qualified individuals for a continuing, full-time (35 hrs/ wk) Occupational Therapist with the Learning Supports team starting August 27, 2026.
Occupational Therapists facilitate students' ability to function and participate in the occupations of school: learning, socializing, playing, and growing. The Occupational Therapist provides occupational therapy (OT) services to referred students throughout Rocky View Schools (RVS) using a multitiered system of service delivery, from Kindergarten to Grade 12 within inclusive environments. Occupational Therapists provide specialized supports to children/students who have been identified with severe, multiple complex needs. The Occupational Therapist incorporates OT strategies into classroom and school settings, in authentic and functional ways.
The successful candidate must have access to reliable transportation as travel is required. Mileage reimbursement will be provided in accordance with established RVS procedures.
Responsibilities
Conducts OT services within the context of typical classroom activities
Effectively supports the prevention of OT difficulties and promotes motor competence for students to enhance educational success
Promotes student independence in the activities of everyday life or ‘occupations'
Facilitates, through play and meaningful activities,
the development of age-appropriate skills; developing creative solutions or alternatives as necessary
Writes initial and on-going assessment and treatment reports to share with parents and professionals within and outside RVS
Administers, scores, and interprets standardized and non-standardized/functional pediatric therapy assessments and monitors student's progress by providing ongoing observation/assessment of development and achievement of goals
Initiates referrals to external agencies and programs as necessary
Develops goals, strategies, and activities that integrate seamlessly into lessons and other school activities, occur in inclusive settings, and are connected to the student's Individual Program Plan
Collaborates with both the school and the divisional learning support teams to support and facilitate the student's Individual Program Plan
Provides in-service professional development for school staff and families to build OT capacity
Demonstrates and models a genuine appreciation for, and understanding of, protocol, discretion, and professionalism in RVS
Education and Experience
Master of Science degree in Occupational Therapy
Current registration, in good standing, with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists, including a valid permit to practice and continuing professional development as per guidelines.
Minimum 2 years' experience working with multiple complex needs children
Experience working in an early childhood setting will be considered an asset
Expertise in identifying, diagnosing, and planning therapeuticintervention for students with neurological and developmental disorders causingfunctionalimpairment
Previous experience within a school division and/or with Student Information Records Systems is considered an asset
Knowledge and Skills
Strong assessment and problem-solving skills to identify and address developmental and educational delays
Expertise in identifying, diagnosing,
and planning therapeutic intervention for children/students with neurological and developmental disorders causing functional impairment
Proven ability to establish a rapport with children/youth, families, and other professional staff
Ability to successfully work in a multi-disciplinary team workplace as well as independently with minimal supervision
Proven ability to establish collaborative working relationships with internal and external clients
Knowledge of records management principles including Privacy Legislation
Strong consultation, coaching, and facilitation skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate and convey highly technical/medical information to parents/guardians and staff
Strong presentation and instructional skills with the ability to present to a wide range of stakeholders
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and web-based applications
