Note: This is a temporary position, ending on June 4, 2027. You would be filling in for the permanent manager of Southwestern Ontario. This is a hybrid position, and the successful candidate can be located in Windsor, Hamilton, London, Toronto or Kitchener-Waterloo.
We are looking for an interim Managing Editor of Southwestern Ontario to lead four teams in southwestern Ontario - Windsor, London, Kitchener-Waterloo, as well as Hamilton, including our bureau in Niagara Region. These teams provide a daily news service on a variety of platforms, including live morning and afternoon audio programming for these cities and surrounding communities, one live video news program and ongoing digital coverage.
The Managing Editor is the senior journalistic leader and drives the local editorial strategy for these stations. This person will develop,



implement and oversee objectives with measurable outcomes for each station. They will have oversight over local daily news, pilots, live and on-demand coverage, community outreach and news specials, ensuring they're serving the needs of the people who live and work in their respective communities. This person will also collaborate with other leaders and units across CBC to maximize the impact of our journalism.
The ideal candidate is a strategic leader who is laser-focused on audience needs and has a proven track record of driving change. This person is a creative thinker who's eager to rise to the challenges of an ever-changing media landscape, and inspires others to a permanently adaptive approach to the work that they do.
The Managing Editor executes strategies for building meaningful relationships with new audiences, with an emphasis on growing the 35-49 demographic through journalism centred on their needs and the realities of the communities in which they live and work. They will lead change in each station, pushing teams to adapt their work to meet the evolving needs of a diverse and growing populace.
The Managing Editor will hire, inspire, mentor, support and develop staff, ensuring their teams, like the communities they serve, reflect a wide range of experiences and perspectives.

The Managing Editor will ensure that all CBC journalistic standards are met and that our stories and our programs are fair, balanced, accurate, thoughtful, and intelligent.
This leader is also the point person for matters outside of journalism, working with partners in other departments to address issues as they arise, including maintenance, security and technical issues. While not responsible for solving these problems, the leader helps ensure solutions are sought in a timely manner.
Qualifications Exceptional critical thinking skills.

An ability to connect easily with a wide range of personalities, perspectives and experiences.
A strategic approach to daily journalism, against established objectives and priorities.
Confidence and experience with a variety of storytelling formats and platforms, including breaking news, features, investigative, as well as audio, video and digital platforms.
Cultural sensitivity and a demonstrated commitment to the value of diversity in the workplace.
Excellent interpersonal skills, including demonstrated success in giving feedback, providing positive reinforcement and conflict management.
