Job Overview: Responsible for providing leadership, support, and technical expertise to continuously improve the effectiveness of the site's HSE program, in accordance with applicable legislation and MDLZ standards. The role is tasked to ensure a protected workplace through prevention methods and the achievement of our strategic objectives (KPI’s, etc.)
*This is a fully in office position*
Key Responsibilities: Act as a technical resource for stakeholders by encouraging action in accordance with legislation and best practices, educating and generating awareness of HSE initiatives, and supporting continual development of the work environment and practices
Ensure the monitoring, creation, implementation, and enforcement of HSE policies and procedures
Revising and creating policies to stay current with department/company changes, legislation and related internal controls
Maintain strict confidentiality of all information obtained, written, or verbally discussed within the HSE department
Responsible to assist in the development, maintenance and implementation of site HSE Programs
Assist in implementing forward thinking HSE efforts (risk-based and compliance)
Remain current with legislation and leading best practices ensuring HSE policies and training are compliant




Participate in discussions across the company to provide insight into current health and safety practices, as well as provide suggestions for areas of improvement
Support and participate in the Joint Health & Safety Committees, continuously developing both the committee and the work environment through ongoing support in monthly meetings and inspections, coordination of workplace improvement activities, and education/training
Identify training needs, co-ordinate, support, and conduct HSE training for sites
Maintain a HSE training tracking sheet to ensure compliance and conduct formal safety orientations
Participate in and conduct training initiatives as per business need
Develop minutes and reports for documentation purposes
Train and coach in situational challenges in different site areas, while providing support and recommendations for risk elimination
Facilitate work workplace hazard analysis/resolution through identification and elimination of hazards, calling meetings to review data, and making recommendations for resolution
Continuously improve the HSE program through analyzing metrics and data, determining risk, and creating/implementing policies & activities for positive change, including external networking to develop best practices
Facilitate incident investigations, proper root cause analyses, and development of corrective actions with responsible stakeholders
The Recipe for Success: Completion of a 4-year university degree in Occupational and Environmental Health and Safety or related field
Minimum of 3 years of HSE experience




Previous experience investigating incidents & accidents and conducting training in manufacturing environment
Working towards CRSP or CHSC designation
Excellent leadership and critical thinking skills – capable of leading cross functional teams in issue resolution and showing good judgement to put plans into effect to resolve concerns
Strong communication (written and verbal) skills to draft written correspondence
Excellent influencing skills, with the ability to deal with conflict and crisis in a calm manner
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills (ability to be highly structured/detailed)
Comfortable speaking in groups to present HSE training
Excellent ability with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Must stay current with legislation, regulations, theory, and case law related to Health & Safety and Canadian Standards Association (CSA). Current knowledge of changes and innovations in HSE.
