Job Description This job posting will run concurrently for internal and external applicants. However, for the first seven (7) calendar days, current employees of Toronto Harbour Light Ministries that are members of CUPE Local 3798.08 will receive hiring preference. Please note that the shift pattern for this position is Weekend Overnights, so applicants must have availability for the hours of 8 AM to 4 PM on weekends. Position Purpose summary: The Toronto Harbour Light Ministries Residential Care Worker is responsible for the well-being and safety of all residents, clients, staff and visitors through providing professional reception, access control, and security at the main entrance to the facility, and through monitoring activity in the building through the security camera system. Reporting to the Transitional Housing Program Coordinator, the Residential Care Worker will maintain a high level of courtesy as well as accurateness in matters of documentation and verbal communication, the safety of the residents,
and the smooth running of the building systems.
Accountabilities Provide safety and security for our residents, students, volunteers, staff and visitors to the facility.
Ensure those entering the facility are not under the influence of alcohol or drugs
Provide front line reception responsibilities, including operation of a multiline telephone system, and greeting of all visitors
Log and distribute all documentation to appropriate facility staff or clients
Respond to email as required
Generate pertinent observational/incident reports and report to appropriate Director and/or Executive Director
Facility rounds: Hourly rounds for residential areas including security pass logging
Administrative and medical areas
Common areas and residential areas as required
Monitor Resident Passes
Shift change transfer of knowledge written report and close shift procedures and transfer of information, as required
Collection of urine sample (requested and random)
Process security passes/access including taking picture for each card and finger print scan procedures
Referring individuals to withdrawal management services and hospitals in consultation with on call management and onsite staff
Assist in the facility fire evacuation plan including record and monitor attendance, providing fire safety for vulnerable residents
Ensure all facility related concerns are entered into the facility management system (Angus Anywhere)
Photocopy forms as required
Acts a point person for elevator call, as needed
Performs other duties as assigned
CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT MANAGERIAL/TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITY Reports directly to Program Coordinator, Transitional Housing
Works closely with other program coordinators and managers within the building
Responsibility to follow all directions from Senior Leadership team.
WORKING CONDITIONS Typical office conditions, must be able to sit for long periods of time, use computer and office phone
The performance of the job requires continuous monitoring of the setting and multitasking, moderate attention when reading, close attention listening and working with numbers
Possible typical office hazards such as intense overhead lighting, eye straining and wrist strain
Possible interactions with clients and/or hazardous substances, use of gloves and proper disposal required
Education, Qualifications and Certifications The successful job applicant will have completed up to two (2) years of Community College, preferably within social services sector. NOTE: An alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable
Experience with multi line telephone systems
Experience within social services sector, and/or mental health agencies
Experience with security systems
Experience in customer service or information desk service an asset
Keyboarding and demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office applications as well as email and internet applications
Awareness of community resources
