Position Summary
Reporting to the Chair of the School of Health Sciences, this position will support the safe and efficient operations of the OTP clinical labs and placements in collaboration with the program coordinator, placement coordinator, and lab course instructors. Accountabilities will include on-site student support, teaching support, and implementation and maintenance of laboratory procedures and equipment.

Responsibilities
Under the direction of the program team, which includes the program coordinator, placement coordinator, and lab course instructors, the OTP support staff is responsible for
- Acting as the lab lead for all casual/part-time lab technicians including onboarding processes as needed
- Consulting with the course instructor and attending all preparatory laboratory meetings
- Ensuring student awareness of lab course objectives, approach, and evaluation techniques
- Reviewing blackboard for lessons and updating the course shells as directed by course instructor
- Reinforcing, demonstrating, assisting and supporting pre-learned principles and their application to skills and procedures
- Providing a learning environment that makes effective use of laboratory equipment
- Supporting and maintaining lab safety, cleanliness and organization, including coordination of laundry services
- Providing observation of student skills and progress using developed guidelines and criteria
- Reporting on student progress/achievement to the lab course instructor(s)
- Maintaining records of attendance and corresponding with students by email with responses within 48h business days
- Taking inventory of all consumables used in the OTP labs and directing orders as needed
- Maintaining and monitoring the wear and tear of all OTP equipment and supplies
- Updating lab plans and assessments as directed by course instructor
- Supporting organization of students on evaluation days in labs
- Making connections for future clinical placement sites and sharing job opportunities
- Supporting relevant workshops and special events
- Other support duties as necessary within the School of Health Sciences
- Ensuring an equitable and accessible learning community
Qualifications Education, Qualifications And Other Requirements
- Minimum two (2) year diploma in OTA/PTA
- Membership in Canadian Association of Occupational Therapy (CAOT), or Ontario Society of Occupational Therapy (OSOT)
- CPR and First Aid certification
- Completed WHMIS/Hazardous materials training
Experience
- Minimum two (2) years of clinical experience as an OTA/PTA
- Previous formal or informal lab technician experience is considered and asset
Skills
- Strong interpersonal, problem-solving and communication skills (written and verbal)
- Understanding of and commitment to equity in education
- Commitment to a team approach for problem-solving and conflict resolution.
- Demonstrated ability to provide clarity in guiding/advising others to accurately explain processes and procedures
- Ability to organize workload, establish priorities and work with minimal supervision
- Excellent clinical skills in OTA/PTA
A skills assessment test will be administered during the recruitment process. A combination of relevant experience and education may be considered as equivalent to the above requirements in the event that there are no internal applicants that meet the qualifications as posted. Equivalency will be assessed by the talent acquisition team.
