You'll be involved in an significant part of the development lifecycle for software delivery at Ford.
Responsibilities will span across development of flashing features and support of our customers utilizing the tooling. We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer to join the Ford Flashing Tool Team . Our team is responsible for architecting, building, and supporting the end-to-end flashing sequence that delivers software binaries to Electronic Control Units (ECUs).
In this senior role, you will be a key technical leader at the vital intersection of software development and physical vehicle hardware. You will drive the architectural evolution of our flashing ecosystem, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate with cross-functional leaders to ensure our engineering, manufacturing, and service teams have the robust and secure tooling needed to program next-generation vehicle architectures. This includes understanding existing code, read existing module documentation, implementing complex logic, and ensuring high performance and reliability.
Lead the integration of flashing tools into modern, cloud-based (GCP) Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines to enable automated software-in-the-loop (SIL) and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL)
validation. Collaborate with ECU software development teams to understand their requirements and translate them into tool capabilities. Design and develop tool features that facilitate the flashing, configuration, and testing of new functionalities within various ECU teams Actively participate in all aspects of the Agile software development lifecycle, including daily stand‑ups, sprint planning, backlog refinement, and sprint reviews.
Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and collaborative problem‑solving. Develop and implement unit, integration, and end‑to‑end tests to ensure the robustness, accuracy, and performance of the flashing tools Create and maintain clear, concise technical documentation for developed features, APIs, and system architecture Provide technical support and troubleshooting for issues related to flashing tools across the release Guide, mentor, and coach junior and mid-level software engineers. Establish and champion software engineering best practices, including rigorous code reviews, automated testing, and comprehensive documentation.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field of study. 7+ years of professional software development experience,
with a proven track record of delivering production‑grade developer tools or system‑level software. ~ Expert-level programming proficiency in Go. ~5-7 years of experience in system design and software architecture, particularly in how software interacts with embedded systems and physical hardware. ~5-7 years of experience mentoring other engineers and leading technical projects or workstreams. Deep expertise in automotive diagnostic and flashing protocols (e.g., Extensive experience with in‑vehicle network communication protocols (e.g., Experience using and automating automotive hardware interface tools (e.g., Experience architecting and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions) for hardware-reliant software. Active participant in Agile/Scrum development methodologies, with experience driving sprint planning and technical backlog grooming.
Exceptional diagnostic, problem‑solving, and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders. The expected annual salary range for this Ford of Canada position is $105,000.00 - $155,000.00and individuals may be eligible to participate in our Annual Compensation bonus program.
