A Day in the Life of a Policy Analyst
The Policy Analyst,
Policy and Programs is responsible for contributing to SCC’s efforts to enhance Canada’s overall response to public policy initiatives implemented through Programs by supporting the advancement of standardization strategies. The role establishes and supports program implementation, which includes engagement with and management of interested parties; meeting coordination, facilitation and documentation; standardization research and prioritization; strategy development and publication; and standardization solution contracting and delivery.

Post secondary education in political science, public administration, social sciences or other relevant discipline
Experience and skills
3 years + of experience related to standardization, strategic policy and/or stakeholder relations
Experience supporting the facilitation of multi-stakeholder technical or policy-setting groups or committees
Experience in: project management, research, strategic-thinking, report writing
Key Activities
Supports program delivery through contract management
Researches and analyzes a variety of social, economic, regulatory, standardization or trade related topics to enhance the capacity of SCC to provide value‑added analysis, advice, and services to private and public sector stakeholders
Participates in programs to engage targeted stakeholders, including industry and government representatives, with particular focus on creating relationships, sustaining them, and promoting stakeholder involvement in the development and use of standardization
Assists in the delivery of selected program based strategic initiatives that require cross functional engagement with internal parties, and with external stakeholders, as appropriate,
including by applying project management tools to oversee the advancement of standardization strategies
Supports the annual budgetary process, monitors and conducts cost‑benefit analysis of proposed activities
Provides secretariat services for the Programs, including the timely development of meeting agendas, organization of meeting materials, tracking of key decisions, dissemination of action items, and completion of meeting minutes
Applies policy analysis skills to monitor; and assesses the public environment to identify the impact of external factors on SCC
Ensures that external feedback and evaluations are appropriately communicated within SCC and adequately considered, which includes supporting their incorporation into briefing notes or reports to Senior Management, as applicable

1: Priority will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents.
Note 2: SCC is responsible for the Personnel Security Clearance process. Typically to be eligible for a "Reliability" clearance, you must have five years of verifiable background information and to be eligible for a "Secret" clearance, you must have 10 years of verifiable background information. The process usually involves reference inquiries, verification of qualifications, criminal records checks, and credit checks (as required) and may require fingerprints.
