We are seeking a compassionate, caring, and patient nurse to provide respite care for our 2-year-old son, who has a diagnosis of lissencephaly and global developmental delays. The ideal candidate will be dedicated to providing high-quality care and will be willing to learn and follow our son’s established routine. The role involves a variety of tasks designed to support his physical, emotional, and developmental needs. We will provide training for all necessary responsibilities and skills.
Key Responsibilities
Administer nutrition via G-tube, including proper preparation and feeding techniques.
Provide pureed food and support oral feeding when appropriate.
Administer prescribed medications through the G-tube.
Clean and care for the G-tube site.
Follow physiotherapy routines and stretching exercises to support mobility and physical development.
Provide socialization through activities such as reading, singing, and engaging with him. Follow recommendations from speech and language pathologists.
Work on fine motor skills, including encouraging reaching,
grabbing, and interacting with textures.
Assist with daily hygiene tasks, including bathing, diaper changing, and brushing teeth.
Monitor and ensure the safety and well-being of the child at all times.
Attend appointments and family activities.
Required Qualifications
Must be in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
Must be compassionate, patient, and willing to learn and adapt to the child’s routine.
Strong communication skills to work effectively with the family.
Prior experience in pediatric care or with children with special needs is an asset, but not a requirement.
Ability to provide a protected, nurturing, and stimulating environment.
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions carefully.
Comfortable caring for the child with parents being inside the home or away.
