About the Role: Reporting to the Senior Compensation Specialist, the Compensation Specialist is responsible for supporting the administration and implementation of compensation programs and processes for union and non-union employees. The role prepares salary recommendations, processes and validates compensation changes, conducts audits and reporting, maintains compensation data and supports annual salary implementations and related projects. The Compensation Specialist coordinates the administration of job evaluations for both new and existing positions and is responsible for storing and updating all tracking systems related to job description evaluations and reviews. The incumbent supports activities related to both union and non-union Job Evaluation Committee (JEC) for occupied re-evaluations and appeals, arranging meetings,
communicating with members, preparing materials and participating in discussions to reach consensus. The incumbent supports the Compensation team with various tasks, including reporting, analysis, auditing, salary changes, system projects, and the administration of the annual recognition awards program.
The Compensation Specialist will: Administer the compensation email and Workday inbox, identifying priority items, responding to inquiries and triaging items to the appropriate team member that require further attention;
Administer assigned compensation programs and processes, applying established policies, salary structures and collective agreement provisions;
Prepare salary recommendations for new hires, promotions and other ad hoc compensation changes by analyzing relevant experience, internal equity, salary structures and applicable collective agreement provisions;
Support compensation-related projects through research, data preparation, testing, documentation and implementation activities;
Prepare recurring and ad hoc compensation reports and analysis to support program administration, decision-making and institutional requirements;
Conduct compensation audits and data validation to identify errors, inconsistencies and potential non-compliance with established salary structures, policies and collective agreements;
Investigate and resolve compensation discrepancies within established parameters, coordinate required corrections and escalation matters as needed;
Maintain accurate compensation data, job profiles, salary structures and related records in applicable systems;
Maintain tracking systems and process documentation to support consistency, continuity and audit readiness;
Coordinate job evaluation requests, review submissions for completeness and obtain required information from managers and partners;
Maintain comprehensive records and tracking systems for job evaluations and job descriptions, ensuring data accuracy, integrity and efficiency;
Prepare job information, organizational comparisons, committee materials and preliminary analysis to support evaluations;
Coordinate job evaluation committee schedules, agendas, materials, documentation and outcome tracking, communicating process requirements, timelines and status updates to relevant parties;
Prepare salary recommendations and correspondence for reclassifications based on evaluation results.
Key Skills and Experience: Undergraduate degree in a relevant subject or the equivalent combination of education and experience;
Experience supporting compensation or other data‑intensive human resources programs, including compensation analysis, salary administration, reporting and data validation;
Familiarity with relevant legislation, regulations, and collective agreements related to compensation and employment standards;
Ability to analyze compensation information and prepare salary recommendations using established criteria;
Strong analytical and numerical skills, including ability to validate data and identify discrepancies;
