Pay or shift range: $30.86 CAD to $32.18 CAD
Pay range is shown as an hourly rate. PCRS operates on a fixed wage grid with a step increase typically granted after one year of employment.

About the Program

The Pathways to Education Program™ is a national program, operating in 20 communities across Canada and provides a comprehensive set of academic, social, financial, and individual supports to youth. The primary goal of the Pathways to Education program is to enhance the educational success of youth living in the Downtown Eastside/Strathcona communities in Vancouver and Guildford/Whalley communities in Surrey.

Hours & Conditions of Work

Term Full Time (temporary)

35 hours weekly





Working Hours - Flexibility is required as there may be a need for earlier or later hours depending upon circumstances to offer support to young people at key times.

Travel between multiple sites in the designated community.

Position Summary

The Youth Outreach Worker is responsible for providing individualized case management and group programming facilitation to support youth succeed both academically and socially. This position involves developing relationships with youth as well as liaising with family members, school personnel, and community staff to support the educational needs of youth. In addition, Youth Outreach Workers will support the after-school tutoring and mentoring programming based in the community.

The successful candidate will be dynamic, skilled, and experienced in connecting with diverse communities, including Indigenous, newcomer, and LGBTQ youth to ensure they feel safe, supported, and connected.

Responsibilities

Develops plans in collaboration with youth and appropriate adults (parents/guardians, teachers & other school staff, community partners) to address the educational needs/goals of individual youth

Monitors and supports youth progress, engagement and participation in the program and liaises with program staff

Engages with families and facilitates their involvement in the educational goals and plans for youth in the program

Provides advocacy and support to assist youth access information and support services

Works with youth to identify goals, strengths, issues, and students concerns, while supporting their participation in tutoring, mentoring, school, and community activities

Supports youth to fully engage in tutoring and mentoring programs





Provides support and mentorship to volunteers to engage with youth with effective tutoring and mentoring techniques

Develops diverse resources that address specific learning styles, abilities, and needs

Specific training and/or experience with youth with special needs or new language learners

Knowledge of community and social services

Understanding of impact of racism and oppression

Understanding of impact of settlement journey

Experience or knowledge of working with the public school system, grades 8-12
