THE PROSPECT:
Reporting to the Arena Supervisor, the Lead Hand supports the day-to-day delivery of arena operations, providing both operational and administrative assistance. The position leads staff in maintenance, operations, custodial, and customer service duties, and is responsible for the facility in the absence of the Arena Supervisor.
Preferred Qualifications
3 years’ experience in arena operations.
Relevant supervisory experience
Arena Operator Level 2 required
Building Maintenance Level 2 required
Alberta Class 5 Driver’s Licence required
Pool Operator Level 2 is an asset
On-call requirement – evenings and weekends
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Technical
Strong knowledge of building cleaning and maintenance.
Understanding of the demands, service standards, and day-to-day operations of a recreation facility, specifically an arena.
Knowledge and ability to perform minor repairs.
WHMIS, First Aid, HVAC experience.
Experience in operating and maintaining an ice resurfacer.
Experience in regular ice maintenance.
Physical ability to undertake the duties required.
Interpersonal/Leadership
Robust communication, verbal, and written skills.
Robust analysis and problem-solving skills.
Conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
Proven ability to develop and maintain business relationships with internal and external stakeholders, colleagues, management, and subordinates.
Ability to represent the City and the Department in a skilled, competent manner.
Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Administrative
Proficient in Microsoft Suite of products, task management software and safety software.
Exceptional attention to detail.
Salary: $31.68 - $39.60 per hour (based on 40 hours per week, dependent upon skills and experience). The City offers a generous benefit package, including health and welfare perks, pension plan, and 6% vacation (approximately 3 weeks) to start. CLOSES: August 31st, 2026, at 4:30 PM.
