About Hemlock Valley Utilities
Hemlock Valley Utilities provides essential water, wastewater, and hydroelectric services to the Hemlock Valley and Sasquatch Mountain Resort community.
Working in a unique remote mountain environment, our team plays an important role in maintaining the infrastructure that keeps the community operating safely and reliably.
The Prospect
We are looking for a hands-on, mechanically minded Utility Operator to join our team.
This is a varied role where no two days are necessarily the same. You’ll work outdoors and across a range of utility systems, equipment, and maintenance activities. The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys figuring things out, takes pride in doing a job properly, and is comfortable working independently while knowing when to ask for support.
Utility experience is an asset, but we are willing to train the right person who brings strong mechanical aptitude, a positive work ethic, and a willingness to learn.
What You’ll Do
Support the day-to-day operation of water, wastewater, and hydroelectric systems
Complete routine inspections, system checks, and preventative maintenance
Collect samples and accurately record system data and readings
Monitor equipment and system conditions and identify irregularities
Investigate and report operational issues promptly
Operate equipment including loaders, excavators, and service vehicles
Assist with repairs, installations, construction, and general utility maintenance
Perform general mechanical and maintenance tasks as required
Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas
Follow all safety procedures, operational requirements,
and regulatory standards
Complete required documentation and maintenance records
Participate in an on-call rotation for emergency response
Support other utility operations as required
What You Bring
High school diploma or equivalent
Strong mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn
Experience operating equipment is an asset
Experience in construction, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, or related trades is an asset
Previous utility, water/wastewater, or industrial experience is an asset
Basic computer skills, including Excel, Word, and Outlook
Valid BC Driver’s License
Strong organizational and communication skills
Ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned tasks
A safety-first approach and willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions
Working Conditions
This is an active, hands-on position in a remote mountain environment.
The role involves:
Outdoor work in varying weather conditions
Physical work, including lifting, climbing, bending, and manual tasks
Working around heavy equipment, construction areas, and treatment facilities
Operating equipment and service vehicles
Participating in an on-call rotation for emergency situations
What We Offer
$27–$30 per hour , based on experience
