About the Role Reporting to the Program Manager or designate, the Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) is accountable to the public and responsible for ensuring that practice and conduct meet legislative requirements and the standards of the profession as defined by the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
The RPN provides nursing care within their full scope of practice and contributes to the delivery of KHSC's strategic priorities through a commitment to excellence in patient and family-centered care.
Key Responsibilities Patient and Family Care Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care using evidence-informed practice
Prioritize patient care based on individual needs
Monitor patients and recognize changes in condition, consulting appropriately with the healthcare team
Develop and coordinate care plans to achieve desired patient outcomes
Provide patient and family education and support
Assign, teach, and supervise Unregulated Care Providers as appropriate
Demonstrate critical thinking and clinical judgment within the RPN scope of practice
Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to ensure continuity of care
Participate in care planning and discharge planning activities
Contribute positively to the functioning of the unit and healthcare team
Support ethical decision-making and quality patient care initiatives
Quality Improvement Identify opportunities to improve patient safety and care delivery
Participate in quality improvement activities and initiatives
Support a culture of continuous improvement and excellence
Professional Practice & Development Maintain competence and professional accountability
Participate in continuing education and lifelong learning
Act as a mentor and resource to colleagues, students, and support staff
Contribute to a positive professional practice environment
Participate in research activities and evidence-informed practice initiatives




Qualifications Required Graduate of a Registered Practical Nurse Diploma Program from an accredited Community College
Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario, or eligible and actively pursuing registration
Demonstrated knowledge of CNO standards and RPN scope of practice
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
Strong problem-solving, conflict resolution, and decision-making abilities
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team
Basic computer proficiency
Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment
Demonstrated commitment to regular attendance
Satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening
Physical Requirements The successful candidate must be able to meet the physical demands of the position.
