Unit Summary
Hamilton Health Sciences is the Ministry designated Lead Trauma Hospital for Hamilton, Niagara, Haldimand, Brant as well as Waterloo, Wellington and Halton. As one of the top three trauma centres in the province, the Trauma Program admits over 600 major trauma patients per year and provides integrated clinical, research, educational and prevention services along the entire trauma continuum by a multidisciplinary team.

Position Summary
The Injury Prevention and Outreach Coordinator leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive injury prevention program in accordance with evidence-based practice for a Lead Trauma and Burn Centre. This role utilizes trauma registry data and other surveillance sources to identify injury patterns and high‑risk populations, establish prevention priorities, and implement evidence‑based strategies aimed at reducing injury incidence and severity. The Injury Prevention Outreach Coordinator collaborates with multidisciplinary hospital teams and community partners to deliver education, outreach, and advocacy initiatives, supports continuous quality improvement, and ensures program compliance, documentation, and readiness for verification and re‑verification.

Schedule Work Hours
Monday to Friday, days. Occasional evenings and weekends as required for operational demands.

Qualifications

Undergraduate degree in Science, Health Sciences, Public Health, Health Sciences, Biostatistics or Epidemiology, or related fields.

Minimum of three (3) years health care experience, program planning and development, and data analysis and/or evaluation.

Knowledge and demonstrated understanding of injury and violence prevention principles, epidemiology, prevention science, public health frameworks, and evidence‑informed best practices, including population‑based and equity‑focused approaches.





Knowledge and experience applying epidemiological methods, surveillance systems, and related quantitative and qualitative data sources to identify risk, trends, and priorities.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to translate data, evidence, and prevention strategies into explicit, compelling messaging for diverse audiences.

Creative problem‑solving ability with demonstrated systems thinking to design, implement, and adapt strategies within complex health and community systems.

Demonstrated commitment to injury prevention and public health, with the ability to act as a change agent by advancing prevention. priorities, influencing practice, and supporting culture change aligned with organizational and community goals.

Proven ability to develop and sustain partnerships with internal teams and external stakeholders.

Demonstrated ability to interface effectively with leadership, management, clinicians, and community partners, providing subject‑matter expertise and supporting informed decision‑making.

Strong results orientation with experience using structured approaches to program planning, implementation monitoring, and evaluation.

Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and exercise sound professional judgment while aligning activities with broader program objectives.

Demonstrated flexibility to adjust work schedules, priorities, and approaches to meet operational, community, and prevention program needs.

Effective leadership and critical‑thinking skills, with the ability to contribute positively to multidisciplinary teams and support high‑performing, collaborative work environments.

Demonstrated ability to practice and lead in a manner that reflects ethical standards, equity‑oriented prevention principles, and alignment with the organization’s mission, vision, and values.

Proficiency in both Official Languages would be an asset.
