Position Overview
The Mental Health Clinician provides accessible, client‑centred mental health assessment, counselling, and brief navigation support to young adults aged 16–29. Working within a multidisciplinary and peer-supported model, the Mental Health Clinician delivers individual and group services across in‑person, drop‑in, and online settings, while connecting participants with community and recovery resources. The role also contributes to program development, evaluation, research, and continuous quality improvement, using culturally responsive, trauma‑informed, anti‑oppressive, and anti‑racist approaches to support holistic mental health and well‑being.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Conduct assessments and provide individual counseling
Deliver/facilitate groups in partnership with peer support workers
Provide single‑session counseling through the drop‑in counseling program
Provide one on one online counselling on Bean Bag Chat, Stella’s Place’s proprietary app
Provide assistance to participants seeking navigation supports in the Stella’s Place Café using an interdisciplinary mental health approach alongside Peer Support Workers
Provide Brief Navigation Counselling
Utilize culturally responsive, trauma‑informed, anti‑oppressive and antiracist approaches to ensure quality services
Engage in participatory action research and codesign
Lead program development, implementation and improvement
Engage in comprehensive communication within a multidisciplinary team
Develop clinical assessments and progress notes
Establish and maintain productive working relationships with other community‑based organizations
Contribute to the use of various outcome measures for the program, ensuring a model of continuous quality improvement is maintained
Participate in educational activities and initiatives to enhance the skill, experience, and knowledge of Stella’s Place staff
Additional duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE
Master's Degree in Psychology, Social Work or Counselling Psychology
Registration with a respective College (e.g. College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO), Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW), or College of Psychologists of Ontario (CPO))
2 - 3 years of post‑graduate clinical experience in a mental health treatment setting
Experience supporting clients in managing symptoms of Depression, Social Anxiety, Generalized Anxiety and other mental health concerns
Experience providing clinical services to young adults 16 – 29 years of age
Demonstrated experience working in community mental health settings
Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations, utilizing culturally responsive trauma‑informed, anti‑racist and anti‑oppressive approaches
COMPETENCIES
Ability to work independently and demonstrated experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team
Knowledge of delivering therapeutic modalities in a group setting
Ability to utilize Client Information Management Systems, Personal Health Record management,
and Health Information Custodian requirements
Strong clinical foundation, including skills/knowledge related to:
Unique developmental challenges of transition‑aged young adults
Holistic health (e.g., fitness, nutrition, primary health, somatics, and spirituality)
Conducting referrals for community‑based recovery supports (e.g., peer support, education, employment, transition coaching, case management)
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Possess a strong understanding of how social conditions, structural inequalities, power, privilege, and systems of oppression contribute to experiences of trauma and mental health.
PREFERRED ASSETS
Training and qualification with other clinical treatment approaches including, but not limited to: DBT, CBT, MBCT, ACT, MBSR, IFS, and somatics.
Experience using G Suite, Zoom, TREAT and excel is preferred.
Bilingual (French/English)
HOURS & REPORTING
This position reports to the Manager, Clinical & Recovery Services. The hours of work are Monday to Friday, and vary between 9:00a.m. - 9:00p.m. depending on programming.
