Elevate special education in KO first nations as a Community Based Education Special Education Resource Teacher. Focus on individualized support, transition planning, and community engagement.
The Special Education Resource Teacher (SERT) will provide crucial assistance in academic and developmental areas within Keewaytinook Okimakanak elementary schools. This role emphasizes creating and supporting Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and facilitating holistic student engagement through extracurricular activities. Collaboration with school staff, parents, and community Education Directors is essential to enhance student retention and success.
Key Responsibilities:
• Deliver individualized instruction for diverse learning needs
• Develop and review IEPs in collaboration with stakeholders




• Coordinate access to secondary special education services
• Support student transitions and monitor engagement strategies
• Maintain communication with parents and community leaders
Requirements:
• Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
• Special Education Qualifications (minimum Part 1)
• Minimum 3 years teaching experience
• Positive standing with Ontario College of Teachers (OCT)
• Experience in First Nations or Indigenous education contexts
