We’re hiring: High School English Language Arts Teacher

Are you passionate about helping students explore big ideas, think critically, and grow into engaged citizens? Sturgeon Public Schools is currently seeking a Full-Time Temporary High School Teacher for a work assignment at SCHS .
One of the largest rural high schools in Alberta, Sturgeon Composite High School is located just minutes north of the cities of Edmonton and St. Albert. Sturgeon Composite High School has a dedicated team working collaboratively to provide exemplary education to approximately 950 students from grades 10-12. Programming includes a broad range from academics and arts to Career and Technology Studies, Knowledge & Employability (K&E;), and Special Education classes. With a welcoming environment, the school prepares students to be successful through a balance of excellent programs and activities.
What You’ll Be Doing
Teach English Language Arts 10, 20, and 30 in flexible, student-centred learning environments
Provide engaging and differentiated instruction that supports students in developing strong skills in reading, writing, listening, speaking, viewing, and representing
Help students develop critical and creative thinking through meaningful engagement with literature, informational texts, media, and other forms of communication
Support students in developing effective communication skills and the ability to construct and respond to meaning across a variety of texts and contexts
Provide individualized and small-group instruction to meet diverse learning needs and support successful course completion
Develop and deliver flexible programming that supports students working at different paces and levels of readiness
Provide timely, meaningful feedback and use assessment information to guide instruction and support student growth
Support students in preparing for English Language Arts Diploma Examinations, where applicable
Use technology effectively to engage, communicate with, and support students both in person and remotely
Build positive relationships that encourage student confidence, engagement, independence, and academic success
What Success Looks Like
Students demonstrate growth in reading, writing, listening, speaking, viewing, and representing
Students engage thoughtfully and critically with a variety of literary, informational, visual, and multimedia texts
Students communicate ideas clearly and effectively for different purposes and audiences
Instruction is differentiated to meet students' individual learning needs, readiness levels, and learning goals
Students receive timely feedback that helps them understand their progress and identify next steps
Students develop greater confidence and independence as learners and communicators
Students remain engaged in their learning and make meaningful progress toward successful course completion
Students are supported in developing the literacy and critical-thinking skills required for success in their ELA courses and Diploma Examination, where applicable
Technology is used purposefully to support communication, learning, assessment, and flexible programming
Students experience a respectful, supportive learning environment where they feel capable of achieving their academic goals
What You Bring
A valid Alberta Teaching Certificate
Experience teaching English Language Arts at the senior high school level
Classroom management that fosters a safe and caring environment
Strong skills in using educational technology to support learning
Clear Criminal Record with Vulnerable Sector Check
