Senior Compounding Pharmacist – Non‑Sterile Compounding

Location: Calgary, Alberta Company: Mint Health + Drugs Employment Type: Full‑Time

Build Something Meaningful With Us

At Mint Health + Drugs, we believe pharmacy should be personal.

Not every patient fits into a standard medication or dosage form. Our compounding program allows us to work alongside patients, prescribers and healthcare professionals to create individualized medication solutions when commercially available options don't meet a patient's needs.

We're looking for an experienced Senior Compounding Pharmacist who is passionate about personalized medicine and excited by the opportunity to help us take an established compounding service to the next level.

You’ll have the opportunity to use your compounding expertise, develop formulations, collaborate directly with healthcare professionals, mentor a specialized pharmacy team and help shape the future of Mint's compounding program.

If you're an experienced pharmacist who enjoys solving complex medication challenges and wants the opportunity to have a meaningful impact on both patient care and the growth of a specialized pharmacy service, we'd love to meet you.

What You'll Do
Provide Specialized Compounding Care
You’ll be a key clinical and technical resource for Mint's non‑sterile compounding program.

Your work will include:

Reviewing and assessing compounded prescriptions for clinical appropriateness, compatibility, stability and patient‑specific considerations

Performing and verifying pharmaceutical calculations

Preparing or overseeing customized compounded medications

Reviewing formulations, ingredients, concentrations, beyond‑use dates and finished preparations

Investigating formulation options for unique or complex prescriptions

Providing patient counselling and follow‑up when appropriate

Ensuring accurate documentation and compliance with applicable compounding standards

Our compounding services may include:

Customized capsules and oral preparations

Dermatological creams, ointments, lotions and gels

Pain‑management preparations

Bio‑identical hormone preparations

Pediatric formulations

Customized strengths and dosage forms

Preservative‑free, dye‑free, alcohol‑free or other patient‑specific formulations where clinically appropriate

Medications that are commercially unavailable or discontinued

Be a Trusted Resource for Healthcare Professionals
Great compounding starts with great collaboration.

You’ll work directly with physicians,

nurse practitioners, pharmacists, clinics and other healthcare professionals to help identify individualized medication solutions for their patients.

You’ll:

Provide guidance regarding formulation options, dosage forms and strengths

Collaborate with prescribers on complex or customized prescriptions

Build strong professional relationships with healthcare providers

Educate healthcare professionals about Mint's compounding capabilities

Support community pharmacies that may not have the equipment, capacity or expertise to compound medications themselves

Become a trusted compounding resource for pharmacists throughout the Mint network

Help Us Grow
We're looking for someone who doesn't just want to work in a compounding department — we're looking for someone excited to help us build one of the strongest compounding programs we can.

You’ll have the opportunity to:

Help expand awareness of Mint's compounding services

Develop relationships with prescribers, clinics, allied healthcare professionals and community pharmacies

Identify new referral and partnership opportunities

Recognize underserved patient needs where personalized compounding could make a difference

Help improve turnaround times, workflow and capacity

Recommend equipment, technology or process improvements

Contribute ideas about new formulations and services

Help determine where investment could allow the department to safely accept more patients and prescriptions

Provide expertise in streamlining compounding operations

Development of compounding practice tools for daily use, training and development

You’ll work alongside pharmacy and operational leadership, so you won't be expected to build the program alone.

Quality & Patient Safety
Quality is at the centre of everything we do.

You’ll help ensure Mint's compounding program maintains strong standards for:

Master formulation and compounding records

Ingredient and preparation traceability

Beyond‑use dates

Storage requirements

Equipment maintenance and calibration

Cleaning and environmental requirements

Quality control

Medication incident and near‑miss review

Continuous quality improvement

Inventory, ingredient expiry and waste management

Standard operating procedures

You’ll also help train and mentor pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, assistants and students involved in compounding.

What We're Looking For
Required

Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy degree from a recognized institution

Current registration and practice permit with the Alberta College of Pharmacy

Authorization to practice without restrictions relevant to this role

Strong pharmaceutical calculation skills

Strong understanding of medication safety and quality assurance

Exceptional attention to detail

Strong clinical judgment and problem‑solving skills

Excellent written and verbal communication

Ability to work independently while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team

Compounding Experience
We're particularly interested in pharmacists with hands‑on non‑sterile compounding experience.

Experience with one or more of the following would be a strong asset:

Complex non‑sterile compounding

Dermatological preparations

Bio‑identical hormone compounding

Customized capsules and oral formulations

Pediatric formulations

Pain‑management preparations

Master formulation records

Compounding SOPs

Compounding quality assurance

Training or mentoring pharmacy teams

Formal compounding education or certification is considered an asset.

Previous experience building relationships with prescribers, clinics or other healthcare professionals is also an asset — but we’re equally interested in an excellent compounding pharmacist who is excited to develop this skill.

What We Offer

Competitive compensation

Health and dental benefits

Life insurance, long‑term disability and AD&D;

Health spending account

RRSP matching

Paid vacation and personal days

Education allowance and professional development opportunities

Employee discounts

Supportive pharmacy and operational leadership

Opportunities for continued professional and career growth

The opportunity to help shape and grow Mint's compounding program

Interested?
If you're an experienced pharmacist who loves the technical side of compounding, enjoys solving medication challenges and wants the prospect to help grow a specialized pharmacy service, we’d like to hear from you.

Join Mint Health + Drugs and help us expand what's possible through personalized pharmacy care.
