Academic Unit: Institut des langues officielles et du bilinguisme Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute (OLBI). Course Title: TIER Program. Course Code: ESL 160. Section: F200.
Course Description: Lead the academic component of the Teaching, Immersion & English Refinement (TIER) Program for professors from the Universidad de La Guajira, delivered at the University of Ottawa's Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute (OLBI). This program integrates targeted English language development (B1-B2 levels) with professional training in English-Medium Instruction (EMI). The instructor will design and deliver engaging sessions on topics such as EMI classroom communication strategies, academic vocabulary, course planning, assessment methods, and adapting instructional materials for multilingual learners. The role requires close collaboration with a fellow instructor to ensure curriculum coherence and pedagogical alignment, as well as the supervision of a teaching assistant.
Responsibilities include preparing and facilitating lessons, creating and evaluating assignments, integrating relevant digital teaching tools, and providing constructive feedback to participants. Instruction will be aligned with the program's objectives to enhance participants' English proficiency and strengthen their capacity to teach effectively in EMI contexts, supporting their professional growth and institutional internationalization goals.

Hourly Rate: ILOB -EIP/PIF/UoPal / OLBI - EIP/PIF/UoPal: $128.45 (2024-2025). The academic year starts on September 1 and ends on August 31.
These rates do not include vacation pay nor statutory pay. These rates will be applied until a new collective agreement is ratified. Retro will be paid after the ratification.
Course type: D. Posting type: Régulier / Regular. Language of instruction: Anglais | English. Competence in second language: N/A. Course Schedule: Mardi | Tuesday 10:00-13:00. Jeudi | Thursday 10:00-13:00.
Requirements APTPUO: An acceptable level of education/experience could be viewed as being equivalent to the educational required and/or demonstrated experience.
Master's degree in second language teaching, TESL or related discipline.
Two years of experience teaching ESL at the college/university level.
Previous experience teaching this course or an equivalent ESL course.
Experience with team-teaching.
TESL Certification or equivalent.
Eligibility and Additional Information Employees are required under provincial law to successfully complete all mandatory legislated training. The list of training may be modified by provincial law.
