Reporting to the Vice President, EIC Services & AIC, the successful candidate will plan, coordinate, and deliver electrical and instrumentation projects safely, on schedule, and within budget, from medium through to large-scale industrial installations. This is a full-time position based out of our Red Deer, Alberta office.
Key Responsibilities
Technical & Scope Management
- Read and interpret electrical and instrumentation drawings, specifications, and P&IDs; to confirm project deliverables and constructability.
- Develop and manage project scope of work documents and manage change orders and scope creep as designs evolve.
- Coordinate design reviews with engineering (in-house or client-side) and resolve technical queries between field crews, fabrication shops, and engineering.
- Identify and formally manage scope deviations through the Request for Information (RFI) and Change Order (CO) process, maintaining an accurate CO log.
- Apply working knowledge of relevant codes and standards (CSA, IEEE, API, CEC) to identify and resolve issues before they become field problems.
- Develop and maintain Project Execution Plans (PEP), outlining approach, methodology, resourcing, and execution strategy.
Planning & Scheduling
- Build and maintain project schedules, sequencing electrical and instrumentation work against mechanical and civil trades.
- Plan resource loading across crews and disciplines to meet project timelines.
- Manage critical path items, particularly long-lead materials such as switchgear, cable, and instrumentation.
- Proactively resolve schedule conflicts between trades, subcontractors, and site conditions.
- Understand construction work sequences and assess cost and schedule impacts when sequences are changed or disrupted.
- Maintain cross-trade awareness, including how other craft disciplines impact E&I; scope, productivity, and overall cost.
Cost & Commercial Management
- Own project budgets and cost forecasting, monitoring cost-to-complete against the approved Full Cost Model (FCM) and flagging variances early.
- Track actual costs against budget and explain variances to internal management and clients.
- Track budget burn rate weekly and lead structured cost reviews at key project milestones (25%, 50%, 75% completion).
- Ensure accurate completion of Labour, Equipment & Material (LEM) tracking on Time & Material / Forced Account projects to support client billing.
- Manage change order pricing and lead client negotiations in support of profitable project delivery.
- Review and approve subcontractor and vendor invoices, and issue, evaluate, and award subcontractor and vendor packages in alignment with contract scope.
- Support progress billing and cash flow tracking across assigned projects.
- Build and maintain productive relationships with EIC-valued material suppliers and equipment vendors.
Safety & Quality
- Ensure HSE plans are followed on site and maintain a strong safety culture consistent with EEG and client requirements.
- Participate in incident investigations when required, looping in Elevate safety department for formal reporting.
- Enforce quality control and inspection processes for panel builds, cable terminations, and commissioning.
- Manage non-conformance reports (NCRs) and corrective actions through to resolution.
People & Coordination
- Lead internal and client kickoff meetings (KOM) to align scope, schedule, safety, and communication protocols at project start.
- Supervise superintendents, foremen, and, where applicable, commissioning leads.
- Act as the primary point of contact for client representatives on project status, attending site walkthroughs, progress meetings, and status reviews.
- Manage subcontractors and third-party vendors throughout the project lifecycle.
- Support recruitment and resourcing needs in coordination with Operations and HR as required.
- Prepare and present regular project status updates to clients and internal management.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain a complete, organized project file — contract, scope of work, RFIs, COs, meeting minutes, LEMs, and invoices — throughout the project lifecycle.
- Maintain controlled project documentation to EEG’s ELEVATE-(Branch)-(Type)-(Number) format, with proper revision history.
- Produce regular progress reports for clients and internal leadership.
- Manage as-built documentation and turnover packages and track deficiencies through to closeout.
- Lead project close-out, including client acceptance, holdback release, and final commercial reconciliation.
Risk & Problem-Solving
- Maintain a project risk register and elevate significant commercial, schedule, or safety risks to EEG leadership promptly.
- Identify project risks early — schedule, cost, safety, and technical — and develop mitigation plans.
- Manage claims or disputes professionally and in the best interest of EEG and the client.
- Make field-level decisions when unexpected conditions arise, escalating appropriately.
