The Role As Principal, Portfolio Value Creation, you will lead high-impact engagements with portfolio companies to identify, prioritize and deliver transformative value creation opportunities across CPP Investments’ global direct equity portfolio. Reporting to the Managing Director, Regional Head of Portfolio Value Creation, you will partner with management teams, boards, investment teams, co-sponsors and Portfolio Value Creation colleagues to shape value creation plans, mobilize execution and support active ownership across the investment lifecycle.
The Team Portfolio Value Creation (PVC) partners with CPP Investments’ private investment teams, portfolio company management teams and co-sponsors to maximize value across the global portfolio of material direct equity investments. The global team of 30+ experienced professionals brings investment, consulting, operating and corporate backgrounds and works across the full investment lifecycle, from diligence and onboarding through value creation, governance and exit.
Accountabilities Identify and prioritize strategic and operational value creation opportunities across CPP Investments’ direct equity portfolio, including Infrastructure, Sustainable Energies, Direct Private Equity and Real Estate. Partner with portfolio company management teams, boards, investment teams and co-sponsors to develop value creation plans and translate priorities into executable initiatives. Lead high-impact value creation engagements from diagnostic and business case development through implementation and benefits realization, including commercial, operational, organizational and governance initiatives. Support the investment lifecycle through diligence,
management assessment, Day 1 readiness, 100-day planning, active ownership, performance monitoring and exit preparation. Provide differentiated perspectives and constructively test assumptions to support investment and portfolio company decision‑making, including strategies to mitigate disruption risks and capitalize on emerging opportunities. Build trusted relationships with senior internal and external stakeholders, contribute to PVC’s knowledge and talent development, and support asset-level and enterprise strategic objectives. Leverage data, advanced analytics and AI‑enabled tools to strengthen insights, decision‑making, workflow quality and the impact of value creation initiatives.
What You Bring 8 - 10+ years of experience relevant experience in private capital portfolio operations and value creation, senior operating roles and/or management consulting Hands‑on value creation experience across multiple sectors, with deep expertise across areas such as commercial effectiveness, pricing, procurement, operational excellence, CAPEX optimization, productivity, organizational effectiveness, management incentives and governance. Demonstrated ability to deliver measurable financial and operational impact through revenue growth, margin expansion and capital‑efficient improvements, with a track record of moving from strategy to sustained execution. Strong experience in deal environments, including diligence, investment committee support, onboarding, asset management and exit preparation. Strong analytical and commercial judgement, including experience using data, advanced analytics and, where relevant, AI‑enabled tools to strengthen decision‑making and value creation. Robust stakeholder management and influencing skills, with substantial C‑suite and board exposure, together with experience leading teams and developing talent. Master’s degree or equivalent academic credentials from a top‑tier institution is considered an asset; You are motivated to contribute to something larger than yourself,
