As a Transportation Safety Education Specialist, you will play a key role in planning and implementing The City's efforts to educate the public on how to safely and comfortably travel on The City's streets, sidewalks and pathways. Primary duties include:
- Coordinate the planning, delivery, evaluation and continuous improvement of mobility safety education programs, campaigns, outreach activities and public-facing resources.
- Assist on program development, including research into how mobility safety education can align with Alberta School Curriculum outcomes and support school-based learning.
- Help oversee, update and maintain existing education programming and resources, including toolkits, activity books, classroom materials, presentations, parent guides and school-specific materials.
- Contribute to the development of clear,
accessible education materials and seasonal traffic safety campaigns that encourage safer travel choices.
- Facilitate cross-collaboration with internal groups and external partners to coordinate messaging, outreach, events, presentations, resource distribution and partner-led education opportunities.
- Assist with tracking reach, participation, resource use and lessons learned, and support briefing materials, speaking notes, key messages, Q&As;, presentations and other materials for leadership, Council and internal partners.
Qualifications
- A degree in Education, Planning or a related field and at least 3 years of related experience.
- Experience in education program development, public education, community outreach, resource development and/or program coordination.
- Experience working with schools, youth, educators, community organizations and/or public-sector partners.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications is required.
- Experience with the Alberta School Curriculum will be considered an asset.
- Knowledge of traffic safety principles, active transportation, equity-centred education and/or public safety communications will be considered an asset.
- Access to a personal vehicle for occasional business use.
- Strong Communication, collaboration, research, relationship-building and project coordination skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities,
support existing programs, respond to emerging requests and work independently with guidance from the Safety Education Programs Manager.
Working Conditions: Ability to lift 20 pounds (9 kilograms) is required.
Pre-employment Requirements
- A valid Security Clearance with Vulnerable Sector Search must be provided. Date of completion must be within the last 12 months.
- Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.
Workstyle
- This position works in an office setting with occasional attendance at schools, community events, partner meetings and public education activities.
- Occasional evening/weekend work is required as part of this position, including attendance at community events, Ward open houses, festivals and other public outreach activities; applicants should expect to work at least one evening or weekend day per week.
- This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. These arrangements depend on the operational requirements of the role, employee suitability, and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.
Position and Pay Information

- Compensation: Pay Grade 10 $44.01 - 58.82 per hour.
- Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
- Days of work: This position typically works a 5 day work week, with 1 day off in each 3 week cycle. Hours may vary and evening and weekend work may be required.
