Overview Artemis Gold is a well-financed, growth-oriented gold development company with strong financials aimed at creating shareholder value through the identification, acquisition, and development of gold properties in mining friendly jurisdictions. Reporting to the Manager - Environment, the Superintendent – Environment is responsible for mentoring and coaching of environmental field crews, Indigenous monitors and consultants to ensure completion of field programs, accountable for water, waste, wildlife, reclamation, aquatic health monitoring programs, and complete compliance audits related to the Blackwater Mine.
Location: Blackwater Mine Site
Schedule: Two (2) Weeks On - Two (2) Weeks Off Rotation

Responsibilities Demonstrate effective safety leadership by addressing and enforcing BW Gold’s safety standards, procedures, and safety systems
Lead contact for the environment department with site operational department Superintendents and Managers and oversee and supervise the day-to-day construction activities, environment team and related consultants
Develop an extensive understanding of compliance requirements in BWG’s: Environmental Assessment Certificate (primarily through implementation of Management Plans), Federal and Provincial Permits and Authorizations, First nation commitments and obligations
Accountability for implementation and adherence to project’s regulatory requirements, environmental and social commitments, including compliance/sustainability assurance and reporting
Responsible for understanding and implementing external notifications and reporting requirements




Acting point of contact for external stakeholders and regulators: Attending meetings, Responding to regulatory requests, Leading on-site regulatory and stakeholder tours
Accountability for water, waste, wildlife, reclamation, aquatic health monitoring programs (e.g., fisheries, environmental effects monitoring, land disturbance and biodiversity management), and other associated environmental programs, including work plan development, scheduling, lead field programs, data assimilation, interpretation, and drafting reports
Mentoring and coaching of environmental field crews, Indigenous monitors and consultants to ensure execution of field programs (including mentoring of strong field data collection skills)
Complete compliance audits against permit/licence requirements and social obligations
Take on a champion role with the development and implementation of an EMS in conformance with permit requirements to ISO 14001 standards
Assist with supplying relevant information for permit applications and tracking and proposing approvals, or amendments as required
Support implementation of project agreements, education and training initiatives
Involvement in leading preparation and execution of regulatory reporting (quarterly, annual)
Education and coaching of permit terms and conditions to all operating departments and how they relate to monitoring programs and reporting
Commitment to Health & Safety and Cultural Awareness programs
Coordinate health and safety requirements (contractor/consultant) for implementing field programs, including spending time directly in the field as required
Lead budgeting and cost management




Assist with supporting employees within the Employee Development Pathway and maintaining appropriate records
May be required to maintain a clean-shaven appearance (i.e. no facial hair) to ensure the safe and effective use of required personal protective equipment (PPE) associated with assigned duties
Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in biology, Environmental Science, or a related Natural Resources Management field
Minimum of 5-7 years of experience, preferably in a mining workplace with experience leading and supervising teams accountable for monitoring and compliance programs
Familiarity with relevant BC and federal legislation and regulations (e.g., Environmental Management Act, Mines Act, HSRC, Fisheries Act)
Strong technical writing and data analysis skills
Current or eligible for registration in a professional discipline (e.g., EP, P.Ag, R.P.Bio.)
Experience with off-road vehicles (e.g., snowmobiles, UTVs, boats), BC Mines’ Supervisor certification and Occupational first aid are considered strong assets
Preferred Skills Ability to work at a remote location camp on a 2 weeks on/2 weeks off rotation
Comfortable working and living in close quarters with the team
Ability to maintain high levels of performance over 12-hour shift
Ability to lift/move up to 50lbs throughout a work shift
Ability to work in extreme weather conditions
