The 100 Mile District General Hospital is an acute care hospital in the Thompson Cariboo Shuswap health service area. Housed within the South Cariboo Health Centre, the hospital offers services including surgical, inpatient and emergency. As a member of the Medical Laboratory Assistant team, you will perform a variety of duties in accessioning, outpatients, and hospital collections. Typically, this involves a lot of patient interaction through collecting blood and other specimens, preparing blood and specimens for analysis, sample processing and send out to outside Labs. Your responsibilities will also include using the Laboratory Information System (LIS), Holter monitor set-up and placement and ECG testing and some other clerical duties.

Casual means hours are not guaranteed and may vary and shifts may be at short notice. Casual employees are eligible to apply for internal postings including permanent and temporary positions. There are many opportunities with Interior Health that begin with casual employment and lead to regular employment. Shifts of work will be scheduled rotating days.

Grade 12, successful completion of a recognized Laboratory Assistant training program, plus one year's recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience Canadian Driver’s License as required by position Ability to type 25 WPM *5 minute invigilated typing test dated within the past 48 months from an approved institution.
