Join the University of Toronto as a part-time Research & Development Associate. This hybrid position involves innovative statistical and machine learning research for Canadian political data.
The Faculty of Information at the University of Toronto seeks a dedicated Research & Development Associate for Professor Rohan Alexander’s project. You will work 15-20 hours weekly from September to April, collaborating with the Investigative Journalism Foundation. The role requires attention to detail in managing document collection while offering opportunities for workflow automation with Python.
Key Responsibilities:
• Handle clerical tasks for the Open by Default project
• Process access to information requests received by the office
• Review automated entity resolution matches meticulously
• Write technical reports for dataset creation processes
• Collaborate closely with the Investigative Journalism Foundation staff
Requirements:
• Solid attention to detail and process improvement mindset
• Experience handling data preferred
• Comfort with Python is a plus
• Availability to work in-person on designated days
• Commitment to public-interest journalism principles
