Job Overview:
The EHS Specialist I plays a critical role in promoting a culture of safety and environmental responsibility within the organization. This individual collaborates with various departments to ensure that all activities are conducted in a safe and environmentally sound manner. They help to develop and enforce company policies and procedures that are in compliance with regulatory requirements and best practices in the industry
Responsibilities:
Developing, implementing and overseeing setting health and safety (EHS) policies, programs and procedures
Ensure the application and compliance with the standards and regulations regarding EHS
Promoting the company's EHS culture
Employee Training and Awareness
Implementation of Corporate Standard Work
Work with contractors and subcontractors to ensure adherence to company policies and procedures.
Management EHS Committee and Green X Committee (sustainable environment)
Report and review EHS accidents/incidents including investigations of root cause and implement corrective actions
Premises Inspections and mange Compliance calendar in Gensuite
EHS Metrics Reporting and implement actions to reduce EHS risk to the business
Connected quality tasks:
Update of quality documents (procedures and manual) and implementation of corporate standards
Support during ISO 9001 internal and external audits
Initial quality/EHS training of new employees
Review of the initial concern reports
Opening, monitoring and management of corrective actions (Access DB, ETQ)
Skills/Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in environmental science,
occupational health and safety, industrial hygiene, engineering, or related field
Familiarity with EHS Canada regulations such as OSHA, EPA, and other applicable environmental, health, and safety laws.
Understanding of hazard recognition, risk assessment, and control measures.
Knowledge of environmental management practices, including waste management, air quality, and water quality.
Proficiency in using EHS management software and common office applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
Ability to interpret and apply EHS policies and procedures.
Experience conducting EHS audits and inspections.
Skills in incident investigation and root cause analysis
Demonstrates accuracy and attention to detail
Physically fit to stand for a long period of time
Experience in using Forklifts and lifting equipmentKnowledge of an ERP system will be a plus
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively convey information to employees, management, and external stakeholders.
Ability to train and engage employees on EHS topics.
Analytical and problem‑solving skills to identify hazards and develop preventive strategies.
Organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks and deadlines.
Teamwork and collaboration abilities to work with different departments and levels of the organization.
Detail‑oriented mindset with an emphasis on accuracy and thoroughness.
