The Healing on the Land Mentor will work out of Prince Albert, SK. This position is part of a land based healing team that will service our communities as they engage and empower their youth, young adults and their families to heal using a land-based approach. This is a Term Position.
The following are the requirements for the position:
Qualifications:
Positive role model for youth and colleagues
Knowledge and experience with healing of the heart due to grief and loss
Edu-Therapy training would be an asset.
Experience working with youth, young adults and families.
Experience with land-based healing and survival skills is an asset
Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous culture, traditions, language and values
Creating, developing and training in delivering on the land-based teachings and skills.
Excellent leadership, motivation and problem-solving skills
Ability to speak Cree, Dene or Dakota would be an asset.
Robust interpersonal skills
Valid Driver’s License
Must be willing to provide a police criminal background check
Able to work effectively and collaboratively with others
Ability to work independently and with a team
Computer skills
Boater’s License, Canoe Instruction Certification and water safety certification would be assets
Fire Arms Certification would be an asset and/or willing to obtain it.
Duties will include, but may not be limited to:
Minimum of 5 years experience living on the land by living off what the land provides.
Hunting, trapping, fishing, canoeing etc.
Ability to survive off the land in all seasons
Ability to teach others to survive though experience
Patient and persistent
A good listener and role model for Indigenous youth
Flexible to adjust activities to match the conditions presented by the environment and by the participants
Set up and tear down camps.
Camping 16 – 20 weeks of the year; ability to work long hours.
Travel to support Healing on the Land youth groups in various communities
Work one on one with vulnerable youth on the land – Traditional one on one counselling
Be prepared to deliver training
Maintain equipment
Keep inventory current.
