Description
St. Joseph’s Health Centre is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technologist to join its Core Laboratory team,comprisedof Biochemistry, Hematology, and Transfusion Medicine , supporting high-quality, patient-centered diagnostic services in a energetic hospital environment.

The successful candidate willdemonstratestrong technical competence, adaptability, and a commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement.

Duties & Responsibilities

As part of a multidisciplinary Core Laboratory team, the Medical Laboratory Technologist will:

Perform pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical testing within their assigned discipline of the Core Laboratory.

Rotate through all assigned workstations and support cross-coverage as operationallyrequired.

Prioritize workload to meet turnaround times, including STAT and urgent testing.

Identifyabnormal or discrepant results and takeappropriate action, escalating concerns toappropriate clinicalor technical resources.

Prepare, authorize, and interpret laboratory results with accuracy and attention to quality standards.

Respond to inquiriesregardingspecimen collection, test results, and result interpretation.

Perform routine and preventative maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of laboratory instruments.

Adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and all components of the laboratory quality management system, including:

Quality control (QC) testing and assessment

Quality assurance (QA) activities

Incident reporting and non-conformance documentation

Participate in the development, review, and maintenance of SOPs andvalidationdocumentation.

Support inventory, material management,



safety programs, andaccreditationreadiness.

Participate in the training and mentorship ofnew staff, students, residents, and learners.

Engage in test development, method validation, technical projects, and continuing education.

Foster effective collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to support patient care.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Current registration in good standing with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO) .

Recent hospital laboratory experience (within the last two years) in one or more of the following areas:

Haematology

Demonstrated ability to work across multiple disciplines within a core laboratory model.

Proficiencywith laboratory information systems(Epic,WellSkyTransfusion,CareSphere,Remisoland Data Innovations, Unity Real-Time)and Microsoft Office applications.

Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a collaborative, team-focused approach.

Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.

Commitment to the hospital’s mission, values, and patient-centered care.

Reliable attendance and punctuality.

Experience in quality management systems, teaching, research, or method development is considered an asset.
