The Real Estate Council of Ontario (RECO) is seeking a Lead, Communications for our Communications and Stakeholder Relations team. We have one permanent position available to start immediately.

Hybrid work environment

The role
Reporting to the Manager, Corporate Communications & Media Relations, the Lead is responsible for the strategic communications counsel and narrative development for RECO’s core operational and regulatory departments. This role acts as a primary advisor to program areas—including Compliance, Legal, and Education, and translates complex regulations and consumer protection mandates into proactive communication plans. They oversee the day-to-day corporate communications pipeline and lead a direct report to ensure all regulatory updates and public narratives are clear, accessible, and synchronized across all channels.
Position responsibilities
Strategic advisory
Deconstruct complex corporate initiatives and transform them into comprehensive, proactive communication strategies and integrated roll-out plans.
Advise leaders and project owners on consumer protection-based narrative and communication risks, moving beyond ad-hoc tactical requests.
Ensure all communication plans align with the organization’s overarching corporate goals, culture renewal efforts, and regulatory transparency standards.
Narrative development and content creation
Lead the drafting and editing of high-stakes public materials, including dedicated regulatory web pages, public notices, consumer awareness content, and executive messaging.
Establish a consistent, authoritative, yet accessible tone of voice across all corporate and regulatory communications.
Translate dense legal, technical, or legislative frameworks into clear, authoritative, plain-language public narratives.
Coordinate with peer Leads (Digital, Internal, Stakeholder Relations) to ensure core corporate narratives are seamlessly integrated and consistent across all corporate channels.
People leadership and operational excellence
Lead, mentor, and coach the Advisor, Communications, fostering a high-performance culture focused on strategic thinking and exceptional writing.
Manage the steady-state project pipeline for the corporate communications desk, ensuring balancing of workload, adherence to deadlines, and quality control.
Establish project milestones and track performance metrics to ensure deliverables are high-quality, data-driven, and on schedule.
Qualifications and experience
Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field.
5–7 years of progressive experience in corporate communications, public relations, or strategic writing, ideally within a regulatory, public sector, or complex stakeholder-driven environment.
Exceptional,
versatile writing and editing skills, with a proven track record of translating complex technical, legal, or regulatory jargon into clear, compelling public narratives.
Strong consultative skills with experience advising internal partners and managing diverse internal stakeholders.
