About the Role: 680 CJOB is looking for a Talk Show Content Producer. Reporting to the Manager, Talk & Talent, you will be responsible for producing talk show segments on CJOB. This position will require an individual that is extremely organized, a great internal communicator, and has the ability and experience to track down and book guests with daily deadlines. Do you have insatiable curiosity to learn, a passion for current affairs, and the ability to develop unique angles and conversations around the biggest stories? Being local is at our core at CJOB. In all our segments we strive to stimulate and entertain listeners across Manitoba. You must be available to work flexible hours as required. In addition to content producing, you may also be called upon to execute live broadcasts, interviews, promotions, and special projects as assigned.
Serving your hosts, serving the shows, serving the station, and serving the audience.
Ensuring all audio clips, pre-recorded interviews and sound effects are properly prepped before show time.
Pitching original stories and developing them for broadcast, social, and digital media.
Chasing guests with tenacity and enthusiasm.
Booking guests and setting up programming debates, panels, and forums.
Building shows with depth and focus, which drive forward the show’s editorial priorities in covering multiple angles of the big stories.
Researching news. current affairs and sports stories for broadcast, podcasts, and digital media.
Editing both audio and video podcast elements
Developing a comprehensive, unique, and diverse contact list of insiders, professors, newsmakers, reporters, correspondents, opinion makers, etc.
Developing and producing special programming around impactful and complex topics.
Providing an on-air presence (when applicable) on the show (debriefs, montages, reports, investigative series etc.)
Preparing a show rundown, background info for guests, and research for stories. Highlighting where teases, promos, and other show elements fall within the rundown.
Coordinating with the newsroom on breaking news, Amber Alerts, and daily show content.
Finding and telling high-quality stories that reflect CJOB as a legacy brand that has evolved as Manitoba has evolved. Seeking to represent many sides to a story while always keeping the listener in mind.
Participating in pre- and post-show production meetings.
Practicing ethical principles of journalism.
Meeting and exceeding ratings expectations.
Performing other duties as required.
Post-secondary education in journalism, communications, or a related field.
Minimum three years of experience in a major market or equivalent preferred.
News experiences an asset, preferably on the radio.
Ability to write for all media platforms.
Expertise in audio and video editing for broadcast, podcast, and social media
Understanding of Burli, and multitrack audio editing.
Tenacious approach in booking guests and news makers to join hosts on-air.
Strong and solid interview skills.
Curiosity and passion for politics, current events and the stories that matter to people in Manitoba.
Comprehensive and wide-reaching knowledge of local and national news events
Proficiency with social media: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.
Strong leadership and communication skills and the ability to lead a dynamic team.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
