The role
We are looking for a Millwright (Machinist) to support our Real Property Planning and Management Branch. The incumbent would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.

The Millwright needs to be very self-driven and is comfortable working alone. Under the general supervision of the Site Operations and Maintenance Manager, the Millwright is responsible for maintaining, installing, inspecting, troubleshooting, calibrating and repairing a wide range of building systems and equipment including rotating equipment (pumps, motors), HVAC system components, internal water system control valves (domestic water and closed loop systems), and air compressors. You will be required to maintain all equipment, including some specialized research equipment such as hydraulic systems used for laboratory testing purposes, to required standards and be responsive to research needs and equipment failures. You will work as part of a team to support other trades on site but would routinely perform work independently and maintain a high level of accuracy and safety, while performing your duties.

In addition to the mechanical aspects of the role, this position will require some knowledge of general facility preventative and corrective maintenance activities.



The successful candidate will be expected to learn to perform basic functions with building automation systems, daily inspections to lighting and plumbing systems, and preventative and corrective maintenance activities every day such as but not limited to carpentry and plumbing. This position will require you to be on call for emergencies on occasion.

Screening criteria
Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:

Education
Successful completion of secondary school according to provincial standards.

Must also possess a Machinist or Millwright trade certification in accordance with provincial standards.

The following certifications could be considered as assets:

First Aid / Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)
Significant experience installing, removing, repairing and maintaining complex and/or standard industrial equipment in a refrigeration plant and/or a research facility such as hydraulic systems and nitrogen systems.
Significant experience in the supervision, coordination and support of contractor activities in compliance with safety regulations and ensuring efficiency and standards are met.
Experience monitoring building systems using a Building Automation System (BAS) and/or a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).

The following experience criteria will be considered assets:

Experience rigging and doing lifts to facility equipment.
Experience using techniques of welding, brazing and cutting with oxygen acetylene torches.
Experience managing accurate record keeping and maintenance tracking through the SAP maintenance management program.

* Significant experience is defined as a minimum of 5 years of experience.

Condition of employment
Must be able to possess and retain the physical capabilities to perform the position which include but may not be limited to: crouching, bending, twisting,



walking, climbing stairs & ladders, ability to hear to diagnose mechanical troubles, and the ability to handle heavy and bulky objects.
Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) when needed.
Reliability Status

For a Reliability Status, verification of background information over a period of 5 years is required.

Candidates will be assessed on the basis of the following criteria:

Solid knowledge in troubleshooting and repairs of hydraulic/mechanical systems and their components, air compressor systems, and building systems.
Knowledge of Building Automation Systems (BAS) and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
Ability to use precision measuring tools for fabrication of parts.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, manuals and manufacturers specifications.
Knowledge of federal, provincial and/or local regulatory requirements including building and construction codes.
Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act for construction projects including safety standards and practices.
Technology support - Conceptual and analytical ability (Level 2)
Technology support - Results orientation (Level 2)
