About Our Opportunity

Filing taxes can be an overwhelming experience for many individuals. As a result, many low-income individuals do not file and consequently miss out on benefits that they may otherwise be entitled to. We are looking for volunteers to support tax filers at FSGVs free pop-up tax clinics, which are run throughout the year. This is an opportunity to help low-income individuals file taxes and assist them in connecting or re-connecting with the benefits that they are eligible for.

Through volunteering your will be able to:

- Dedicate your time, skills, and efforts to assist low-income individuals with Tax filing
- Support clients while making a positive impact in the community
- Support the organization in its mission, values, and commitment to compassionate and client-centered care.

Work Hours Hours would be based on tax filing clinic schedule. Normally these run once or twice a month during the week between the hours of 9:30 to 3:00pm Monday to Friday.

Location

Clinics will be held at 1638 East Broadway, Vancouver BC, and in addition, at various partner sites (ie libraries, community housing sites, seniors centres, etc)

Posting End Date: Posting will remain open until volunteered until positions are filled.

What do you need to succeed?

Education, Training, Experience

- At least 2 years of experience preparing personal tax returns, both on paper and electronically
- Comfort using tax software—we use UFile

Role Qualifications and Skills include, but are not limited to

- Solid familiarity with a range of tax situations, including seniors’ pensions (local and foreign), employment income, disability claims, social assistance, student tuition, and newcomer tax matters.
- Excellent attention to detail
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Attendance at CRA webinar training (self-paced)




- Registration for your own volunteer EFILE number with CRA (separate from any practitioner EFILE you may already have)
- Participation in team meetings (usually twice a year, not including clinic service days)
- Availability on weekdays during tax season (typically 9:30 AM–3:30 PM from March to mid-April, and during post tax season.
- Serving as many clinics as you’re able, during tax season and throughout the year.
- Good computer skills; (Microsoft Office Suite, experience working with UFile is an asset)
- An ability to maintain strict confidentiality

A strong desire to help and serve our community of people with diverse backgrounds

Additional Requirements

- Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check
- Willingness to register as a volunteer under the CRA Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP)
- Commitment to reviewing annual tax updates on your own time
