Alberta Infrastructure is responsible for delivering about one quarter of the Alberta government’s Capital Plan, which addresses the provincial infrastructure needs of Alberta’s population that support key social programs and services and economic development.

The Ministry designs, builds, manages, and maintains government-owned and operated facilities, and collaborates with other ministries to ensure that school and hospital infrastructure meet the needs of Alberta’s population. Infrastructure also provides accommodation services and manages a large portfolio of owned and leased facilities while maintaining fiscal accountability and optimizing value for Albertans.

Properties’ Programs & Integration Unit is the primary point of contact and resource, for the regional offices within the Properties Branch, for business, technical, systems, and process expertise, with the goal of facilitating uniformity, continuous improvement, and innovation in relation to property management practices. Programs & Integration is accountable for knowledge management and consistency relating to Properties business, accommodations, major maintenance, facilities management, and project delivery processes, as well as for providing associated training, and identifying and promoting the application of best practices.

The Safety & Security Integration Advisor is a key resource within the Building Support Team, reporting to the Building Support Manager. This position is responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of integrated occupational health & safety (OH&S;) and physical security programs across Alberta Infrastructure's Property Management Branch. This role supports the development, operation,



and continuous improvement of specialized government-owned and operated facilities, including therapeutic, residential, administrative, and public-facing environments.

Primary Responsibilities

Collaborating with project teams and Facility Managers during the design, construction, and renovation of facilities to integrate safety and security features tailored to operational and client needs.

Developing and implementing customized safety protocols that prioritize client safety, staff well-being, and operational integrity.

Establishing a unified Safety & Security Framework for Property Management, adaptable to various facility types and service models.

Aligning safety and security policies with provincial legislation, ministry directives, and best practices (e.g., OH&S; Act, CPTED).

Leading investigations and response efforts for incidents involving safety or security breaches, with a focus on protecting clients and minimizing disruption to services.

Coordinating with Alberta Justice, Alberta Health, law enforcement, and Facility Managers on threat assessments and mitigation strategies.

Designing and delivering training programs for staff working in specialized government facilities, focusing on OH&S;, physical security, de-escalation techniques, and client safety.

Providing consultation to Project Managers and Facility Managers on safety and security requirements for new builds, renovations, and operational changes.

Monitoring project implementation to ensure compliance with safety/security standards and alignment with client service goals.

Preparing reports and recommendations for senior leadership, highlighting trends, risks, and opportunities

This position works with and provides support to Project and Property Managers. It also communicates with consultants and contractors to exchange latest technology information.

Required

University graduation in a related field (e.g., Occupational Health & Safety, Criminology, Security Management).

Plus Four (4) years progressively responsible related experience

Equivalency
Related experience or education (e.g. related diploma) may be considered as an equivalency on a one-for-one basis.

Assets

Certification or eligibility for CRSP, NCSO, CPP or PSP.

5 years of progressive experience in OH&S; and/or physical security.

Experience with healthcare, residential, or government facility operations

Valid Class 5 Alberta driver's license; ability to travel province wide.

Understanding of trauma-informed care principles and their application in safety/security planning.

Ability to interpret building plans and technical specifications.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant business systems.

Notes
This is a Permanent full-time role with the standard weekly work hours of 36.25, Monday to Friday (8:15 am – 4:30 pm).
