The warehouse receiving associate is responsible for checking incoming merchandise against invoices to identify shortages, damaged goods, and backorders and processing special orders. The associate must make sure the warehouse, and check-in areas are neat, clean, and orderly. The employee must prepare packages for mailing, contact shipping companies, keep files up to date, etc.

The associate must assist with the unloading of the Home Hardware (HH) delivery truck from the distribution centre. Must have the ability to read supplier invoices, bill of lading, picklist, P.O.’s etc. The warehouse / receiving associate must perform all tasks with sufficient speed and accuracy to avoid adverse impact upon the level of service to customers.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

- Organize and facilitate receiving schedules that provide customer expectations while maintaining an efficient and cost-effective schedule.
- Assist with picking orders with assistance from warehouse/yard manager to keep delivery orders ready and delivered on time.
- Record shortages, and reject damaged goods
- Help Develop and maintain shipping/receiving, unloading, and delivery procedures and recent ideas to improve efficiency.
- Must load or assist loading delivery trucks when possible, according to provincial or federal procedures to perform efficient delivery schedules.
- Report out-of-stock items to the appropriate personnel.




- Report surplus items to the appropriate personnel.
- Restock product during picking orders, without causing deficiencies in delivery schedules timelines.
- Pick orders neatly and organized to minimize damage to product and store in appropriate location as not to cause damage or spoiling.
- Operate Forklift, hand truck or other equipment to load, unload, transport and store goods.
- Keep warehouse, storage, and check-in areas neat, clean, and orderly.
- Greet and serve customers in a professional manner as they arrive in Lumber yards.
- Move heavy and bulky merchandise for customers and for sales personnel.
- Check incoming merchandise against invoices or orders to spot shortages, damaged goods, backorders, etc.
- Report any shortages or damages of product to purchasers before carrier packing slip are signed
- Advise your supervisor of shortages, damages, backorders, etc.
- Price/tag incoming merchandise.
- Maintain maximum security in warehouse and check-in areas.
- Provide storage area for layaways, repair items, etc.
- Check invoices.
- Process special orders for non-stock items.
- Maintain up-to-date receiving file.
- Move merchandise from receiving / warehouse to sales-floor.
- Restock merchandise as needed.
- Follow company procedures regarding required signatures, forms, receipts, etc.
- Load and unload merchandise and materials.
- Follow all safety precautions when loading and unloading freight.
- Know the correct location of all products in stock.




- Work on special projects assigned by your supervisor after determining their priority in relation to your other responsibilities.
- Follow all receiving procedures and company policies as determined by management.
- Follow proper documentation procedures for merchandise that is to be returned or refused.
- Attend meetings, training sessions, etc. as required.
- Work on additional duties and assignments as assigned by management.
- Work in a safe manner in accordance with provincial and federal safety legislation.
- Report any potential hazards and unsafe behavior to management

QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Well-organized, with a high attention to detail and ability to prioritize
- Must be trained and safely operate loading, unloading, and transfer equipment (forklifts, pallet jacks, pushcarts, etc.)
- Must be able to communicate effectively with management, employees, and delivery personnel.
- Confident, high energy, self-motivated and a true team player
- Must be able to visually verify contents of shipments.
- Must be able to read and comprehend written and printed materials.
- Must use basic arithmetic skills to verify orders, invoices, shipping, and packing documents.
- Must have basic computer skills.
- Willingness to continually develop professional skills and knowledge base.
- Ability to work co-operatively in a team atmosphere.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must move merchandise weighing up to 100 pounds from receiving area to warehouse and place it on shelves.
