Position Overview
The Site Construction Manager oversees day?to?day construction operations across multiple projects at one time, ensuring work is delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget. This role is on the job site, coordinating trades, enforcing safety standards, managing documentation, and maintaining compliance with company controls and schedules. The ideal candidate brings solid leadership, deep construction knowledge, and a proactive approach to risk management and site coordination.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and supervise all on?site construction activities, ensuring alignment with project plans, specifications, and timelines.
Coordinate subcontractors, trades, suppliers, inspectors, and contractors to maintain efficient workflow and resolve site issues promptly.
Conduct daily site walks, toolbox talks, and safety briefings; identify hazards and implement corrective actions.
Enforce compliance with OHS legislation, company safety policies, and industry best practices.
Maintain site documentation including daily logs, incident reports, change orders, and progress tracking.
Monitor project budgets, equipment needs, and labour allocation.
Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and engineering reports; elevate discrepancies.
Oversee quality control processes and ensure workmanship meets required standards.
Liaise with engineers, and Head Office to provide updates, resolve issues, and support decision?making.
Manage site access, security, and environmental controls.
Support commissioning, close?out activities, and deficiency resolution.
Safety & Compliance Responsibilities
Ensure all contractors follow the Workplace Safety and Health Act & Regulations.
Lead incident investigations and implement corrective actions.
Maintain WHMIS compliance and ensure proper handling and storage of hazardous materials.
Verify training certifications (e.g., First Aid, Fall Protection, Equipment Operation) and ensure contractors meet site requirements.
Promote a positive safety culture through coaching, accountability, and consistent enforcement.
Ensure emergency response plans, evacuation routes, and muster points are clearly communicated and maintained.
Qualifications
Minimum 5+ years of progressive experience in construction site management or supervisory roles.
Strong knowledge of commercial, industrial, or civil construction practices.
Demonstrated ability to lead diverse teams and manage multiple subcontractors.
Proficiency in reading blueprints, construction drawings, and technical specifications.
Solid understanding of OHS regulations and industry safety standards.
Excellent communication, problem?solving, and conflict?resolution skills.
Valid driver?s license (company vehicle provided) with a clean driving record.
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and manage physically active site environments.
Ability to travel to sites within Manitoba and Northern Ontario.
Preferred Assets
Experience managing multi?phase or multi?trade construction projects.
Training or certification in safety leadership (COR, NCSO, CSO, etc.).
Familiarity with project management software or digital site reporting tools.
Experience working with engineering consultants and municipal inspectors.
