Seniors Program Coordinator

SUMMARY:

Working collaboratively under the direction of the Manager, Seniors Programs and Community Development, the Seniors Program Coordinator will develop, adapt, and deliver senior-focused programs that respond to emerging issues and trends affecting seniors in the Waterfront community. The role also supports seniors' leadership, autonomy, access to culturally relevant programming, participation in decision-making, and connection with the broader Waterfront community.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop, organize, and implement a diverse program of recreational, educational, social and culturally relevant programs for seniors that reduce social isolation by increasing opportunities for peer-to-peer engagement, strengthening senior volunteer participation and capacity, and promoting healthy aging.

Design and implement activities that reflect the needs, interests, and goals of individual participants and groups.

Assist with community development and outreach by serving as a resource to community members and families, helping them identify needs and develop ongoing supports to address those needs.

Assist seniors and their families in accessing multiple services, support, resources and maintains active linkages with other resource centers and organizations.

Facilitates community involvement, civic engagement and encourages volunteers and seniors to assist in the programs and activities.

Develops, supports and evaluates leadership training opportunities and other creative skill-building activities for seniors, caregivers and their families.

Will provide regular program reports and evaluations, documentation for all reliable encounters and other activities.

Orient Volunteers, students and new seniors’ program participants. Will oversee the work of Seniors Program volunteers and students.





Facilitate regular meetings with the Seniors Committee and seniors program students and volunteers to discuss goals, improvements, and achievements.

Monitor the Senior’s Program Budget and acquire supplies within the approved budget.

Maintain statistics, prepare required reports for funders, and implement an outcome evaluation process.

Participate in agency staff meetings, Seniors Advisory Committee, in-service training and other staff development programs as appropriate.

Performs other program related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Experience in planning and implementing a range of social, educational and recreational programs which are culturally competent and of interest to English and multilingual seniors such as art, fitness, trips, luncheons, special events and other.

Post Secondary education in social services, recreation, activation, or other related field. Gerontology Certification is an asset.

Minimum 2-years of experience working with seniors/older adults in a non-profit organization.

Strong program planning skills with demonstrated experience working with volunteers and students.

Strong understanding of the social, political, and economic factors that affect seniors across genders, cultures, and generations.

Knowledge of cultural competency principles and best practices for working respectfully and effectively with diverse and marginalized communities

Knowledge of social services related to seniors.

Training and demonstrated competency in intercultural communication,



cultural sensitivity, and inclusive service delivery.

Strong written and verbal communication skills in English; proficiency in a second language is an asset.

Strong critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills

Exceptional organizational skills with ability to effectively coordinate multiple projects, meet deadlines, and set priorities.

Additional Requirements:

A Vulnerable Sector Screening/Police Reference Check is required.

CPR and First Aid certification are considered assets.

Salary Scale: $29.36/hr.

Hours: 25 hours per week Wage Grade 9 - Step 1

Start Date: October 5, 2026
