Chippewas of the Thames First Nation is accepting applicants for the position of:

Position Title: Water Technician

Department: Public Works

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week working onsite 8:30am – 4:30pm

Location: 641 Jubilee Road, Muncey ON

Summary:

The Water Technician is responsible for assisting with the operation, monitoring, maintenance, and repair of Chippewas of the Thames First Nation's communal water and wastewater systems. The position supports the delivery of secure drinking water to community residents while ensuring wastewater treatment operations meet applicable regulatory and environmental standards.

Reporting to the Water Supervisor, the Water Technician performs inspections, sampling, testing, maintenance activities, and emergency response duties related to water treatment, water distribution, wastewater treatment, and wastewater collection systems. This role plays a vital part in protecting public health, the environment, and the sustainability of community infrastructure.

Responsibilities:

- Assist with the operation and maintenance of the water treatment plant and associated equipment.
- Monitor and maintain well supply systems, storage facilities, and distribution infrastructure.
- Complete inspections of pumps, chlorine systems, valves, hydrants, meters, and related equipment.
- Monitor water quality, chlorine residuals, storage levels, pressures, and flow rates.
- Collect water and wastewater samples and perform testing in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate operational records, logbooks, and digital reporting systems.
- Assist in the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment and collection systems.
- Perform preventative maintenance on water and wastewater facilities and infrastructure.




- Safely handle treatment chemicals and materials.
- Respond to service calls, alarms, emergencies, and community concerns.
- Assist with infrastructure repairs, upgrades, and contractor coordination.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and operational standards.

Qualifications:

- O.S.S.D., GED, or equivalent education.
- Ontario Operator-in-Training (OIT) Certification in Water or Wastewater Systems, or willingness to obtain certification.
- Post-secondary education in Environmental Technology, Water Resources, Public Works, or a related field is considered an asset.
- Minimum one (1) year of experience in water, wastewater, public works, utilities, or a related field is preferred.
- Valid Standard First Aid and CPR certification.
- Valid WHMIS certification.
- Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) certification or willingness to obtain.
- Valid Class “G” Ontario Driver’s Licence and access to reliable transportation.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and digital record-keeping systems.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities is considered an asset.
